Did I get swindled. Shop said they changed brake calipers.

Okay so I was smelling a really horrible smell from the front right tire, and the truck felt like it was dragging a bit. Took it in to the shop and they said both brake calipers needed to be replaced as did the brakes. Quoted me 1300!! I said hell no thats way to much, so they said okay we can take off the brakes since they arent on their last leg and give you a free brake fluid exchange to help out and it would be like 750. Thats to replace both brake calipers and hydralic hoses for parts and labor. So I got my truck back about a week ago.......anyways looked at the tire today and I'm not the smartest guy in the world at all when it comes to auto mechanics, but nothing in the wheel looks new/newish at all to me. Heres a pic.......is that rusty thing the brake caliper or is that a cover of some sort and the NEW brake calipers in inside of it. Pics of both tires below.

No I didn't, this was NTB by the way

From the 2nd pic, the calipers appear kind of old. I do see some area not covered in rust. Have you had rain recently?

Yes we had a tropical storm that dumped heavy rain for a couple days.

The rust in the second photo does not appear thick. Can you verify this?

What do I do, just rub on it and see if it comes off?

That is it. Look for any surface unaffected by rust or clean surface

I have seen new calipers with surface rust on them right out of the box, mostly when they sit on a parts shelf for long periods of time. $750 bucks sure seems like a lot of cash for 2 new (maybe rebuilt???) calipers... did they replace anything else???

No...just that and they said new hydralic hoses and install as well....

Well I took a toothbrush with some dawn and some of the orange was coming off but when rinsed off after the discolaration remains. The old back calipers look brand new compared to these NEW ones. Some areas of the new ones arent discolored, just that main center area.

Before.

If not to much time has passed, I would go to the mechanic and ask to see the old parts or have them prove they used new parts and take your receipt
