You should be able to goto a locksmith and they can pop that tonnau cover open. Then you can take the plate on the back side of the tailgate off and fix it.

well do you have to open the tailgate to open the tonneau cover?

yes it has the latch on the right hand side of the tonneau cover, i think i might be able to get my hands into the sides of the tonneau cover and get the bolts off the side rails, take that off then fix the tailgate..........what a pain in the a................

Sounds like how my dads cover is
There are latches on either side of it that clamp to the bed rails
There is no external lock
Never thought about it but he's SOL if his tailgate doesn't open
