So, the paint on the hood of my truck has started chipping away. I took it to a respected local place and they quoted me between $750 and $1,000 (depending on if I want them to blend the paint with the fenders). I don't think that's an unreasonable quote, but I don't have that kind of cash to invest in this particular repair at this time. Looking for some suggestions on what to do to keep the hood from rusting in the meantime.

I've uploaded a pic of the hood in it's current state.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sand the area down... you'll want to remove the loose paint that just traps water.... at least prime that area and rattle-can it if you want. Won't be permanent or very strong, but the main point is to protect the metal.

Ok, thanks very much. Any particular sand paper (or other sanding substance) that is recommended?

Cool thanks.

I saw some touch up paint that is supposed to be a match on Amazon too. I may grab some of that and give it a shot.

Do the prep work yourself then you can take it and get it sprayed pretty cheap.

Yeah, but to get it correct, it would take floating and feathering which sounded lie more work than the OP wanted to do at the moment.
