Default Srt hood malfunction.
Well today I was racing my friend for a short 25 roll. I don't think we even got to 50 then I saw something fly off from the front of my truck. So I pull over and sure enough it was the insert in my SRT-10 hood. Luckily it flew off and landed in a grassy median, paint up. No scratches or anything! So now I'm stuck with a huge hole in my hood until I figure out how to re attach this. What happened is that the clips that hold it into the hood at the front, sheared off the insert. So has anybody dealt with this before? And how did you fix it?

Unfortunately it is a piss poor design for attaching it. Two of mine broke, but I was able to use screws up from underneath to hold it in place. Maybe epoxy something to act like a screw? I wouldn't trust it, I would start looking for a replacement. Sucks because new ones are like $240 last time I looked.

Christ, it's worse than that....

Crap, that's what I was dreading. So could I get those pins that sheared off, plastic weld them back on, then use a bit of threaded rod in the four locating pins, and use that to bolt it on? I really don't feel like getting a new one, then having it painted and all.

Oh man, that sucks!
Mine was barely hanging on by a thread too, I had a local shop plastic weld them back on, and so far it's worked pretty good

Yeah. That's what I'm picking up tonight. And some threaded rod. I'll show you guys what I'm thinking of doing in a bit.

Alright epoxy is setting. Me and my dad decided to run a bead of silicon sealant around the perimeter of the insert. He has some pretty serious stuff that holds our aluminum sink in place, so I'll do that too.

That is one reason I went with an aftermarket hood for my truck when I had to replace the motor. It is a true ram air style that actually works to force air into the intake. Here is a link to where I got the one I have:

https://www.ramairhood.com/store/scr...?idproduct=40#

I also got their airbox which mounts right on top of the intake and connects directly to the throttle body.

You know I saw this thread yesterday but I don't remember seeing the pictures so I didn't quite understand what you were talking about.
I really hope the epoxy works but I don't think so, if it doesn't work then look at the piece and see if there is "ABS" molded in the part. If so then you're in luck because you can chemically weld them back on. You will need something called Ambroid Pro-weld. Go to a good hobby shop, they should have it. This stuff will literally melt the two pieces of plastic back together so go easy on how much you use. Put the pieces together and using a toothpick drizzle the chemical over the seam. It will wick in through capillary action.
I build models as a hobby and use it alot. I also used it to repair a grille I got off of CL for dirt cheap because it had two cracks. Now it's good as new.
Silicon sealant around the perimeter is a good idea. It will give it a bit more hold.
Good luck.
Don
