Hey Everyone!

Ok a quick and simple question.

First. I know Nothing about tires.

I need tires. The existing ones are 285/70/17 Pro-comps and they are old, noisy and the ride sucks.

I bought the truck used and its in great shape and i use it for my daily driver, so almost all regular road driving, with heading out to the desert once in a while.
Whats a decent tire that will get me through the year (winter and summer with a little off roading) that is going to be fairly quiet and have a halfway decent ride?

And is it going to matter if i go from a 285 to 265?

Thanks!

Well what are you looking to spend? Also realize if you downsize to a 265 you will lose some ground clearance that you have now with the 285s. Id recommend Cooper discoverer AT3s, Nitto terra grapplers, Toyo open country AT2s, and firestone destination at.But it all comes down to the amountt of money u want to spend.

285/70 VS a 265/70 you wont lose much ground clearance. 285 and 265 is the width of your tires. so going 285 to a 265 is going to be a skinnier tire.. if you got to a 285/65 you would notice a bit of difference in height. 70 & 65 would be a percentage of the width giving you your "height"

Here are the differences between the 2 tire sizes you are looking at
285/70 265/70
Diameter 32.7" 31.6"
Width 11.2" 10.4"
Sidewall 7.9" 7.3"
Circumference 102.7" 99.2"
Revs/Mile 616.9 638.4

If your dial gauges are calibrated to the 285 here is what you would get in regards to speed reading differences should you put the 265 on without getting the Speed recalibrated :

Cluster showing Actual Speed
20 mph 19.3
30 mph 29
40 mph 38.7
50 mph 48.3
60 mph 58
70 mph 67.6
80 mph 77.3

From an overall ground clearance perspective you only loose ½" so nothing to worry about.

Some tire shops (at least around here) will offer some satisfaction guarantees and can offer a tire swap if you don't like your tires. You can also have a look at tire reviews on Tire Rack dot com. A lot of the times there are some decent comments on tires from both Tire Rack personnel and customers.

Hope this helps.
