I need to get some new tires. Ive decided on Toyo Open Country AT2. i have three options, but not sure what to do:

I can put 265/70r17 ($195 apiece) on my metal rims. This is the size i have on now. But i kinda want to have then for winter tires. I can buy new 17" steels for $100-120

I can get 285/70r17 ($285 apiece) for a little more height but i still have the issue above. And they are $90 more apiece.

I can get some 18" alloys for $150+ and LT275/70R18 for $259 apiece.

So what would you do??

I'd do option number 3

So would I!

Having a nice set of steelies for Winter is the way to go, IMHO.

The only downside I see is that you would need some new tires for the steelies for winter traction so now you are up to one set of wheels and 2 new sets of tires unless you run the alloys through the winter.

I have winters. Well I have three winters. One hit something on the road last winter. And I got a replacement. All season the same size. Not text book but it's cheeper.

where are you buying your tires from? I have the at2 extemes in 305/70/17 they are a great tire. best tire ive had on my truck so far. I got them from here: https://www.treaddepot.com/#!productDetail/tireStandardFitment/351170 and they shipped in really good time and where a great seller. highly recommend them check it out.
There is a vehicle mod company up here that has the best price in Canada. About three hours away from me. 2kool performance is the name. But I will look at that place to night and compare prices. Cause the us and Canadian dollars are so off. One of yous to .73 of ours:(

if you're using the tires in the winter and going with the 285/70r17 look at the KO2s. I had AT2s on my F150 and they sucked. They're loud for an AT, wore bad and couldn't grip like the KO2s can. I ordered a Rebel so I'll be changing the stock AT2s out as quick as I can to the 285/70r17 KO2.

Another option, which so far I like are the Goodyear AT with Kevlar. They have a 60k mile treadlife warranty.

Treaddepot.com and tirebuyer.com both have good prices. Tirebuyer has free shipping a lot of times.

If you do hauling or towing, get LT tires. If you're off tossing, lt tires are a good bet cause they're built stronger than P rated tires. Plus if you add 2 tons of addons like Derekp, you'll be able to carry it all! :) lol

I had Toyo ATiis on my Wrangler unlimited and they were a great tire. Decided to try something different on my Ram, just put on some Falken AT3Ws. Wow couldn't be happier so far. Look awesome, ride nice and quiet and are winter rated. Great price through discount tire with rebate. Good luck.
