For the third gen owners like me, our foam is destroyed and it costs about $100 to get new factory foam. I am going to try out this site I just found:

Boat Cushions, Foam, Mattress Replacement, Camper Chair Couch Filling

You select the window seat foam, enter the dimensions and its $15 for the section of foam. I just wanted to share, this seems like a nice cheap fix.

Get some 1" foam sheets at Jo Ann Fabrics or your local fabric store ($3), a can of spray adhesive ($6), cut to fit, glue and stack as necessary. There is a "How to" on this subject on some other sites but I'm not sure if the write up ever made it to DF. I did my this way and it works great.

A solution for your seat foam or cushion wearing down, ripping, losing it's support etc...

There's a place in my area that uses memory foam to re-do seats. It's not cheap but if my seat wears out that's what I'll be using. After buying my motorcycle seat a few years back (it has memory foam), I can't see going any other way, it is awesome.

Good luck OP.

EDIT: what design flaw? My seats are fine.

I've never heard of said design flaw. And if it's something I am sitting on the old quote, you get what you pay for comes to mind. Now, mind you my seats have been custom reupholstered and new foam put it...but still, I would rather pay for quality.

The flaw is simply that (sharp) metal underneath the foam cuts through the foam. The fix, sand down the metal or wrap a towel around it.

Just wanted to share.

Just curious...how did you find out about this?

My seat foam was bad one day. Googled around to buy new foam, and found that its a design flaw and Im not the only one with this issue.

My seat is the same way, has a hole through the fabric and through the foam down to the metal frame

This was a fairly common issue, a few years ago there was a post almost every day regarding someones seat doing the same thing. Its the railing thaat cuts through everything, it goes faster if you keep your wallet in that pocket too.

I took a BFH and hit the sharp part into a rounded edge.

They sell memory foam for not a whole bunch at these fabric stores. Thats what I used, a 15 minute fix

Is this suppose to be with all 3rd gen's? I'm a big guy and would certainly feel something poking me if it were close enough the upholstery to put a hole in it. My seats are leather but I can't imagine that would matter in regard to the inside of the seat.

Well thats the thing, you really wont "feel" anything poking you, the seat just wears down and as you move or gt in and out, reposition yourself it moves the cushon just enough to start ripping it. It will eventually get through leather seats, which is why seat covers alone wont fix this issue, it just takes a bit longer for it to wear through. If you were to take the cover off enough to get you hand between the leather cover and cushon you would proably feel the cushon cut in the same place
