I was thinking of changing out my overhead map and dome lights to red, either incandescent or led. Anyone done this, or know what type of bulbs they are?

One of the 3rd gens can chime in about the bulb number but I'd go with led's. Most of the normal bulbs that are colored don't put out near enough light to be useful

I think alot of members get their led bulbs from retro solutions. Their site has a link to sylvania's site and there you can check your stock bulb numbers in order to get the correct led bulbs.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. What about the map lights?

They fit perfect, and wok perfectly, when matched with a resistor in each socket. Just ran the ends of each resistor the same way the light bulb is in.

Would you happen to have a picture of how you hooked these resistors up. you have to put a resistor in all 3?

Yes, a pack of 5 resistors was about $2. I think it was like 470W 2 Ohm or something. Fixed any flickering and not working. No pictures, but basically, the resistor has a lead coming out of each side, put one lead into the first clip, and then the other side into the other clip, the same way the light bulb is put in.

It's pretty easy, just have to have a resistor so the truck knows a bulb is there.

I am reading alot about them heating up pretty bad if you don't have just the right one in there. Does your setup get hot? I am curious if anyone knows what the safest resistor to use is but that will also still fix the problem?

Mine doesn't get any hotter than the bulb is, and the bulb, both the LED and incandescent, both get pretty hot. They've been in for a good while now, and haven't had any problems.
