What's the best way to launch in a 4x4? Put it in 4wd or leave it 2wd? Roll into the throttle, or mash it and go? Any tips?

My buddy has a newer 4th gen, he launches in 4hi then switches to 2hi once he's off the line.

From what I've always heard (and it could be totally wrong) you weren't supposed to shift into or out of 4wd except when not moving and in neutral. How wrong is that?

I believe that's for the older styles. In the 90s they have shift on the fly. There is a limitation on it which I believe was 30 mph on the old 90s. I don't know about any more but you can shift in and out

That's for t-case neutral into 4lo, most systems you have to shift on the fly for 4hi (usually up to about 55mph)...have you ever tried to put a manual shift transfer case into 4 hi at a stop lol? It won't move unless you're lucky enough to have it in the right spot.

I have the manual 4wd shift on the floor, I haven't had an issue changing in neutral. I'll try shifting on the fly sometime

Trying to shift my 05 Rubicon was the biggest pain in the ass! Had to be right at 3mph to ease into 4LO or you'd grind the **** outta of it hahaha
