It depends whether your 06 is a 1500 or 2500. I did a similar swap a few months ago. Welcome to RF.

^^As he says. Reason being, an 06 1500 hemi is an MDS engine whereas the same year 2500 hemi will not be. If you have a 2500 then it's a drop in. If you have 1500, the question is whether you want to keep your MDS or not. If not, then you just need a tuner to turn it off in the PCM and all good, just pull the harness (won't be able to plug it in anyway). If you do want the MDS AND want to use the 04 engine, you'll have to pull the heads to install MDS lifters and install the solenoids in the vee of the block. Depending on which it is, it may be easier to find a more compatible engine.

You will also need to change your whole exhaust system because the mds has 4 separate mufflers, two large ones for 8 cyl mode, and two smaller ones for 4 cyl mode, that's if you want the hemi grumble that is.

You're saying there are a total of 4 mufflers? I've never heard that.

Then I suggest you do some reading cause obviously you haven't been working on mechanics for long, young blood.
No disrespect intended.

I've completely rebuild most of my truck from the ground up, Including rebuilding my own hemi engine. I've spent nearly a year researching ram trucks and everything I can possibly try to learn about it. I have never heard one time about 4 separate "mufflers" on any of the trucks. So unless yours and my definition of what a muffler is completely different, I'm saying that's not true.

Do your research before you type brah, mds didn't come on 1500 till 06 so you just don't have expanded experience past your truck. Knowledge comes with age and experience my man.

Yes I know that, never said anything about what year it started. Can you please explain some more then as to where there are 4 mufflers underneath the truck? Are you saying the headers are different? Are you counting a resonator as a muffler? Just looking for an explanation. No trying to me a douchbag or anything, I'm just confused on this.

The system was first offered only on passenger cars, since the heavy demands of trucks would interfere with its operation. However, it was recalibrated for 2006 and was offered on all seven models, including SUV's and 1500 series trucks, using the 5.7 L engine.

In order to preserve the characteristic rumble of the V8 engines, Chrysler and Eberspaecher North America designed a special exhaust system for MDS-equipped vehicles. This includes FOUR SEPERATE mufflers, two large central ones for V8 mode and two smaller ones near the tailpipes for four-cylinder mode. Unlike the system used on Mercedes-Benz V12 engines, also designed by Eberspaecher, the system is mechanically passive. Most people that have an aftermarket exhaust didn't know they had four stock mufflers, that's the top first mod. Everyone gets a cat back exhaust and never even look under the truck first.

Other than the MDS going from an:

04 --> 06: use the intake, throttle body, valve covers and coil packs from the 06.

Durango --> Ram: use the oil pan, oil pick up tube, driver's side exhaust manifold and the dust plate between the engine and bell housing from the Ram. Also clean up the pre drilled hole for the engine ground.

Durango or 1500 --> 2500: delete the EGR
