Tuesday AM the AC was cold. Left work, turned on AC and it blows hot with an oily smell. I'm guessing evaporator core. Anything else I should look at first? How much can I expect for the job at a reputable mechanic?

I am fairly handy but the size of the project is a bit intimidating if it means pulling the dash. I have pulled part of it before to deal with the recirc door, but this sounds like a good bit more. Anybody done this with good experience?

I've pulled a few dashes for heater cores in multiple vehicles. It really not that bad. And most places I have heard people tell me quotes from are in the 1000-1500 range for the whole job and parts. Pulling a dash is just a lot of screws and bolts. You'll have to discharge the ad and disconnect the ac lines at the fire wall. Chilton manuals will walk you thru it. Now, I'm no expert on if that's yor problem or not

Thanks. My mechanic quoted me 970 for replacing both evap & heater cores. 110 heat index in Houston. My old body is telling me let the young men do it. Putting it in the shop tomorrow AM.

Yup, same happened to me a couple of years back. But in the winter time... my windows were so foggy I could barely drive...

My quote was around $950 IIRC not sure. Put it in the shop as well.
Make sure that you get a new dryer as well.
