Hey everyone i recently got a 4.7liter engine that runs good thats out of a 2002 dodge dakota. I have someone who is very interested and would like to put it into 2004 ram 1500 that has a bad 4.7 in it. this engine does not have any of the accessories on it or motor mounts. From what i believe the buy could bolt his motor mounts onto the block form his ram and it should all work right? It still the same engine aint it?

Im 99% sure it is but i dont want to be the one that says it is and be wrong. If you can get the block numbers then maybe verify that way. I'll do some researching.

Thats true, the only difference being that some of the earlier 4.7 were NON EGR engines.

There is a difference - 16 tooth tone ring vs. 32 tooth tone ring, i.e JTEC (Jeep Truck Engine Controller) vs. NGC (Next Generation Controller)

2002 was a transition year, and it is somewhat of a gamble what variety it had. Pre '02 was JTEC, '02 is iffy, but mostly JTEC, and '03+ is NGC.

FWIW, my '02 Durango 4.7 has the NGC controller. It was a late build.

Check the number of plugs on the PCM - if they are the same on the Dakota and Ram, you're G2G.

4 plugs - NGC, 32T tone wheel

3 plugs - JTEC, 16T tone wheel

They're the same engine - but have different tone rings...meaning they are not interchangeable.

The tone rings can be changed, but requires pretty extensive tear down of the engines.

Okay so I keep hearing that 03 and up is 32 tooth. And that it should be next generation and have the computer with four plugs. I've got my 04 and I've got a late 03 donor truck and I find myself inneed of a new engine. But my late 03 has two computers one has a large plug in and the other has 3 plug ins. Is this motor still next gen or no. Any help would be great.

You can easily identify which variant you have by removing the passenger side valve cover and returning the engine to TDC with the marks on the timing cover. Look at the top of the tone ring. You will see a stamp "NGC" on the tone ring itself. It will have 32 windows. The Jtec tone ring has 16 windows, and no stamp.
