Hey guys I got a Black 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 hemi with a blown motor.

It's a nice truck....

Now I figure the only way I get back on the road is with a motor swap ?

Started looking into it and found a couple Durangos and 300s hemi 5.7 motors but no Dodge Ram 1500 in the lowermainland

Did i mention it's a Laramie edition

So do those 5.7 motors " Durango , 300s" work at all for this truck or a couple things need to be changed to work ... what's the deal with these 5.7 motors

I miss my truck some one help lol

Don't quote me, as I'm probably wrong, but I believe the cars have different timing chain covers and different intake manifolds, otherwise they're pretty much the same

All the 5.7 hemis have the same block, crank, and pistons. They have different front covers, different heads, and different air intake manifolds depending on the year and model the engine came out of. I supposed you could take your ram engine cover, your ram heads, and your ram air intake and bolt them to the durango/300 engine and be up and running that way.

I smell a cam swap and such...

And I agree, great time to upgrade cam and heads!

The easiest swap would be a Hemi out of an '03-05 Ram 1500/2500, '06-'08 Ram 2500 or an '04-'05 Durango since these engines don't have MDS. All of the 300Cs and Ram 1500s/Durangos '06-'08 will have MDS. The Durangos share the same front cover as our trucks but have a different oil pan. The 300Cs would need to have both the oil pan and front cover changed. The heads are all the same and you can just swap your intake onto whatever engine you are dropping in.

Well that's the thing the piston detonated in the cyclinder thus smacking the head and the head is F***** lol so are the walls in the cyclinder , full rebuild is over 5 grand , there's a guy with a Durango motor from a 2005 220xxx for 700 bucks

So for this motor to work but everything would need to be swap over the heads the intake manifold and air box , no drilling into the block or anything ? and it would fire up with my harness is what someone was saying ?

Yes and probably the oil pan too.

You just need to swap the oil pan, timing cover, and use your truck's accessories and intake manifold; the heads are the same on that Durango engine and can stay in place; it will be completely plug and play with your wiring harness. One thing with the oil pan, the oil pump pickup tube bolts to a stud on the main bearing cap that's further forward than on the truck so all you need to do is swap the bolt and stud from one bearing cap to another and torque it back down.

I will say, when a cylinder grenades in spectacular fashion we generally recommend replacing the intake manifold because metal can be dumped into it which will get pulled back into the new engine and damage it.

No need to swap the timing covers, they're the same. I'm doing a similar swap right now.

2004 RAM 2500

2004 Durango

You'll also need to use the clutch fan, Flexplate dust cover, engine mounts and radiator hoses from your Ram since they're different on the Durango.

***EDIT***
For anyone doing this swap the oil pick up tube is different but it still bolts up the same so you won't need to switch any main cap bolts.
