just curious how much engine oil does everyone put in their hemi's. The manual suggests 8 quarts but everytime i do 8 quarts its above the recomended line on the dipstick.

8 quarts maybe if the engine was completely dry. I'm usually around 6 to 7 quarts with a filter change and that's using a larger filter and pre-filling it. I'm estimating the amount since I use a full gallon jug plus some from another gallon jug.

It's a good idea to always check the dip stick while you are filling to ensure you don't over-fill. Don't just assume.

7 quarts is about 6.6 litres and thats about what i put as well, usually closer to 7 litres depending on how long it drains.

7 quarts puts me about an 1/8th of an inch below the max of the recommended zone.

I use 8 but its because of the supercharger using engine oil.
7 is normal unless you have a special deep oil pan.

Bear in mind that the oil filter capacity varies from brand to brand, that is why some find they are a little low, or a little to high. Best thing to do is, as an example, the capacity is 7 qts, install new filter, add 6 quarts of oil, start engine, let it run for a couple of minutes, good time to check the filter & drain plug for leaks. Shut engine off, give it a couple of minutes for oil to drain into the oil pan, check oil level on dipstick, add oil till the level is at the full mark, or at least in the safe zone. This procedure will keep you from over filling.
