While digging through some old posts I found the spec for the OEM 6.1 cam.

It has been posted that it is 205/210 duration 542/526 116 lsa cam.

I heard folks using this cam for regrinds and even installed stock. The lsa cannot be changed but rhe profile can be modified. Installed stock it has been said the low end torque suffers, but picks up upper-mid and top end. Also said to be suitable for light trucks with 5 degrees advance, Anyone with real experience pls post.

I had one reground in my truck and low end felt the same but the upper end felt very strong. My regrind was to an Inertia Motorsports Spartan. Sam on here has had a 6.1 installed stock on his truck before also. You are correct the LSA cant be changed but the profiles can be. What I was told by Stu is on the regrind he was trimming all the extra fat off the cam to make it more aggresive. Stu uses Crower to make his cams and Crower has very fast ramp rates on their stuff.

Thats OK Man, but really those 6.1 Cams are not totally Useless IMO.
I did loose low end torque and the shorty's picked it up a bit, so my real point here is if you run this Cam you need Long-Tubes in support and prolly would work better in a SC than a QC.

My interest is the 6.1 has/is it is talked about all of the time. But I hadn't actually seen the specifications posted. With Danny's install and others who have run the 6.1 we have a excellent oppurtunity to do side by side comparisons.

Danny, is the Crazy Spartan stronger than the stock 6.1. Problems?

George can you share you cam card info and thoughts?

Anyone with a RCSB use the 6.1 or variation of the cam?

Now this is getting interesting..

I have read that with a 5-6* advance the 6.1 pulls great, and its cheap and will run on a canned tune. That doesnt make it the best, and there are far better cams out there.

Ryan, I agree, but it is hard for an individual to determine what is "best" for his truck without comparing pro's and con's of the various cams. And it seems the 6.1 almost always get's a bad rap and I'm not sure it is warranted or not. Haha I don't know why I always support the underdog, maybe it's from owning a 03 thing.

Here is a comparison of the 6.1 with the more popular 260 cam.

6.1 - 205/210 duration 542/526 116 lsa.
260 - 208/212 duration .522/.525 113 lsa.

Looking at the numbers of the 6.1 it looks to me the 6.1 would have an advantage over the 260 if installed 5-6 degrees advanced. And would be a really nice cam using spray or forced induction.

Comments anyone?

Greg, IMO, Its because of the 113 LSA on the 260 that the Idle struggles when installed in the 03 with the canned SC, and prolly can be custom tuned with the DIa..............ah forget it (J'k) However if you be Tricky and up the idle by 200 you'd be good, so that said I haven't looked for that wire Yet!

The 6.1 has numbers close to the beloved 268 also... I always wanted to spray mine, the guy who bought mine did spray it but he does street racing in Texas. No real numbers to supply you with but he did like it.

Let me put it this way, on some highway runs I kinda ran outta Runway a few times and it was a bit scary! Never had the balls to take it to the limit!

LOL...we posted at the same time.

There is no where good around here to find the limit. Highway is nice and smooth but full of cops, back roads near the farms are slightly smooth and semi straight... but full of deer.

Ok,
how about these..

6.1 - 205/210 duration 542/526 116 lsa.
260 - 208/212 duration .522/.525 113 lsa.
268 - 216/220 duration .528/.531 113 lsa

**Crazy Spartan - 214/214 duration, 0.556/0.556 lift can run about any LSA depending on application but the 114 or higher will work on 03 truck pcm's or others without tuning***

sidewinder 212/212 dur .524/.524 114 lsa
Littleboy 214/218 dur .565/.555 114 lsa this is a 6.1 cam but I like that lift, maybe a 2 degree install on a 5.7.
