What all needs to be changed to run 6.1 heads on a 5.7 block?

Pretty sure you need the adapters to run them cause the ports dont line up right. And I "think" you also need to be able to tune them but am not 100% on that one

as far as i know its new heads, coils, plug wires, intake, conversion plate that moves one of the pulleys out of the way and maybe another thing or two? Its in the 4-digits for only a few hp gains, not worth it for most

He is talking the heads guys not the 6.1 car intake. The heads will bolt up far as I know but the compression ratio is changed and make LESS power from a preious thread I have seen that Stu had comented on. To know for sure I would hit up Sam on here or drop a line to Inertia to see. Do you already have a set of these heads on hand? The exhaust ports are a mismatch also so you would have to get adapters or change your exhaust again along with haveing a mismatch on the intake side.

Actually I was looking at Moe's 6.1 heads, they have a custom chamber that raises the compression to 10.4. So was thinking since the heads are reported superior to the 5.7 heads and can raise the CR also, perhaps a person would be money ahead to go with them. The exhaust mismatch I understand can be corrected with a grinder. This leaves the intake and any relocation of other parts that are in the way. Just looking at "what if's"......

will the ports match up? i've heard it takes some modifying in order for them to work on a 5.7 block

I have no personal experience but from what I have read the exhaust is a pretty simple fix with a grinder. The intake mis-match fix is to use a 6.1 intake manifold. If anyone has done this pls pitch in.

Greg, I'm actually in the process of piecing together this setup. I still need to find the small details such as what pushrods to use, and what can be done to lower compression ratio. Either thicker head gaskets or opening up the combustion chambers themselves. Ive heard Moe's performance has some input on this.
As for the intake port mismatch, I've got the 6.1 intake manifold. And as you mentioned before, the exhaust port can be solved by opening up the header.
I'm having trouble finding the A/C and Alt. relocation brackets, another key element for installation.
There was a guy on DT I met a year or two ago that ran an entire 6.1 top end on his ram. I can't remember his name and haven't ran across him anymore.
So far I've got the intake manifold assy, and heads. So I guess the main hardware is taken care of.

Also, SUPER anxious about your megasquirt installation!

I'm glad that you posted. I just installed a complete 6.1 in my 03 Ram and can find a good solution for the exhaust mis match.. If I grind the port on the 5.7 manifold i would run out of material before I was done. I was able to port my truck manifold and get a close match but I. Am stuck on the exhaust problem.

Greg, If you Mill your current heads .30 thou you'll Gain 10-15 HP and be Married to 91/93 Fuel (only 8 custom rods required, not sure which can look it up ). I just made a deal with a Guy for a Spartan and Inertia Perf Heads (Milled .20) for 1.2K barely used and in my research I read alot about the Milled way of raising Compr and squeezing some HP for the price of Gaskets/Bolts and Machining. The 6.1 Heads on a Truck 5.7 might work well as the Intake doesn't die out like the Cars.

Not to Jack but I may keep the Crazy Spartan in as the estimated end Numbers are higher for RWTQ on the CS vs the Spartan but Spartan has 20 More BHP. Once I decide the Gear Ratio for my Getrag LSD then I'll choose weather or not to swap out Cams or sell it Off. May get the 3.91's as in the new Burn-Out Car (Mopar11 Charger).

Good luck modding and BTW your new Plastic valve cover and coil upgrade should shoe right onto those. Adapters can be found at Shop Hemi or HHP.
Also you could see if 6.1 SRT Factory Headers and/or midpipes can be modded to the Truck, those are plentiful to find at low cost too (Like-D- Mentioned Jeep=Better).

I have a set of 2013 6.4 Jeep manifolds and can tell you they will not fit on a 03 4x4 ram. I was Able to port my truck intake manifold to fit the 6.1 heads.

IS the 6.4. exhaust bolt pattern the same as 6.1? Or is it an overall bulkiness issue?

Ahh the thread is about heads and manifolds bolt to heads.
