Since I have an 03 my cam tuning abilities are limited, so I was told a 6.1 Hemi cam works great. Has anyone on here done this swap?

It's a simple swap and you don't even need to tune for it, it'll need a bit of time to learn the new profile but the PCM will run with the 6.1L cam on a stock tune. If you ever unhook the battery it'll take a short drive to relearn the profile everytime.

Does it get enough gains to be worth it? I'm doing the work myself and I enjoy working on it, but don't necessarily want to open the engine for a small gain

You still want to upgrade the springs but the pushrods are fine, the 6.1L runs the same base circle. The gains are minimal with the 6.1L cam; something like the comp 260 or the sidewinder cam is better in every respect.

Hemi fever said the 260 and 268 doesn't doesn't work well because the 03 doesn't have the ability to raise the idle. That's the only reason I'm thinking about going with. It

I've ran a 260 w/o a custom tune for over 4 years an over 30k miles on my 04 an just on a superchips, the last sentence from Charon is spot on with my truck. IMO if your gonna open up the motor for a cam do more than the 6.1

I have an 03 though, the pcm barely has any tuning capabilities. I don't have rev limiter change, or idle adjustment and was told running a 260 it could occasionally stall, I don't want that

The 260 will run fine for the most part even on a Superchips 91 tune in an 03.

I guess if I decide to do this I'm gonna have to trade my trinity for a superchips

You're lucky that Diablo hasn't fragged your PCM and ABS modules...been known to happen

Hasn't happened yet, the 93 tune works great and the mileage tune has bumped the mpgs just a bit

The tunes are comparable, if the Diablo is working for you there isn't any reason to get rid of it when you re-cam. Most folks just stay away from Diablo for the aforementioned reasons. I have one for my Charger and it's great.

Is this just a 03 issue? Haven't heard of this one before.

Yep, never seems to have affected anything newer in the same way. I tried both, I got lucky, but it also seemed to me just from the butt dyno that the truck ran better and was more responsive with the Superchips so I stuck with it. When I first tried the Diablo my ABS and brake lights on the dash were on when I cranked it up...got scared for a sec til I started moving and they went out. The Superchips never did that lol. Decided I liked it better and stuck with it. I kept my tuner because I'll need it when I swap PCM's.

Has the pcm swap stuff been successful? I see posts about it but haven't seen any long term success stories. I'm interested in doing it

I know of two that have worked well that people have actually attempted. One dude went from an 03 to an 04 then modified again to be an 05 lol. The other one took the easy route and let hotwireauto do it lol.

Is there more to it then simply unplugging the old one and replacing it? Or do wires need switched around?
