Just like an exhaust pipe sizing, is there a certain baseline, formula or limit to how big of an air filter you should have?

My new cone filter is a freaking monster @ almost 2lbs and 11" tall. I am not to sure if this is too much or if the only limit is per your bay fitment space.

Thanks.

i don't think the filter size makes a difference but i wouldn't go more than 4" on the piping

There was alot of back and forth on this back a few years ago and Lance from BFI went into a two page speal bout it and I tried to refrain from remembering alot of what he had to say. The TB is metering all the airflow your putting into it and cant handle more then the actual size of the TB. The best thing I can think of for that setup is theres extra air in the tube on a launch where as a normal CAI will have to build more air.

what he says makes sense. You can go bigger somewhere, but there is gonna be something smaller that will restrict/control the airflow.

Good idea.

Might shave off the bracket that was used for spring support and that should allow me to move the filter further up the tube a good 2-3 inches.

Might not do anything since this Monsoon has not been good so far. Plus i normally just go in the company vehicle 99% of the time during the week.

Only other thing I can think of it where the top cross support is make something that can be hung infront of the filter.

I don't want to lose any of that available space that can take in the extra air. Sacrificed A/C for that lol.

Think i will just leave it as is. Took it for a drive yesterday through drizzle rain and the filter was dry when checking.

Sounds good. Does K&N still make the dry charger wraps? That may help wick away water if its a bad storm and not soak into the filter.

It would almost be worth it for peace of mind. I mean the front end is exposed but prob not as bad as we all think it is.

That looks the same spec as your filter. I have talked to the guys at K&N before and there tec guys are not that bad. Maybe drop them a line just to make sure the wrap is sopp to be dead on the size or have extra clearance. From the filter spec and that one for the wrap its gonna be intresting getting it to slide in unless the wrap streches alill.

Its prob the right one I would guess, if ya check the filter # it will toss the wrap number on it prob as an acces.
