Relocating the battery seems like a good idea to me. There is a kit available JMB Performance & Powdercoat, LLC
Maybe someone knows of others? My question to those of you that have experience with this mod. How did you handle the battery temp sensor? Moved it along with the battery? Eliminated it? Ignored it? Just trying to get some ideas.
Thanks,

Ahhh, with the traction problems our trucks have I thought this might have gotten a few responses.

In the midst of things 40 lbs behind the axle just is not gonna be worth much to many people. On the other hand I did not know we had a battery temp sensor. Cool.

Yep, under the battery is a temp sensor, if the battery overheats it reduces the charge in an attempt to lower the temperature. These trucks are very tricky.
Nothing is easy...... or straight forward.

ya you would have to move the sensor or you will get incorrect charging and the CEL might come on
this would be sweet to add another battery tho

Yes, Weed added a second battery under the hood CTD style. I think 40-50 pounds behind the rear axle is a pretty big change. I use a ballast box which I really would like to get rid of. My thoughts are every little thing either makes it faster or slower. I'm not a fanatic, but I like to stay with the plan..

Red thats an awesome idea! If you plan on doing this, might as well do a second battery on the other side. Extra 100-120 lbs to the rear wheels, dual batteries, cleaned up engine comp! What's not to like? How big is the sensor and is it something that can be moved with not too much hassel? Pic would be great! Or just disconnect the sensor and see if you get a CEL.

I'll have to play with the sensor some to see if moving it is worth while or not. It is a 5 volt sensor that feeds the PCM to determine charge rate. Might get away with with just unplugging it or terminating it with a resistor. I like the idea of this mod and think I'll add it to my to do list.

it also might get muddy/wet back there, you could probably fab something up for cheaper, and close it in

In all honesty Im not a fan of this mod. I think I'd rather keep the battery where it is and add the money for the box to a set of wider tires (I know the box doesn't cost that much but still). Just swapping from a 275 to a 305 has made a world of difference in the amount of traction.

Lol, I know it doesn't look like a big deal, but I've put a lot of effort into getting the tires to fit the way I wanted them. 285/50-20 wasn't the first tires I picked. Do you have any rubbing issues with the 305's? what is your backspacing? Thanks,

I believe everything is stock, and I have no rubbing issues at all with a 305/50/20. If this wasn't my daily driver and didn't care about eating up tires, I'd try to find a rim a wider rim that the 9" stockers and throw the fattest tire I could find on them and keep the fronts with the 305's.

Ryan, I keep forgetting you are not dropped. That's why the 305's are a problem for me.
