Overheated on the way home from getting emissions done. Tried to stop, let cool down. Blew the motor 3 blocks from my house, 115K on it.
Trying to replace the engine, get a little more power, in as economically as possible. Way too much time on these forums lurking and on Amazon and Ebay. Here is what I am in the middle of doing:
Rebuilt 5.7 hemi longblock
had the 6.1 mopar cam and springs put it in $2700
New radiator - $130
New water pump - $70
Power Steering pump $60 (it was leaking a little, might as well...)
New mopar intake manifold - $300
Headers - This was a tough one to find that fits the 2500 and affordable - Flame me, but decided to try these cheapies I found $170: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/s...pwcid=gglpla&gclid=CLuKrJvYm84CFU1ufgodPwcEvw
New idler and pully set/belts - $75
Flowmaster Super 44 dual exhaust - ebay $200
Exhaust tips - $50
Spectre cold air intake - $150 Spectre Performance 9932 Air Intake Kit with Red hpR Filter for Dodge 4.7L/5.7L - Plan on buying a K&N and rotating the filters with each oil change
Thermostat - $20 - ($55 for a mopar one???) Trying to keep to a budget here...
Plugs (16 ugh. I had just replaced these last year with iridums) Went with the copper ones as many have referenced here, saving me some $$)
New wires - $80 Keeping the coils
Gaskets - ~ $150
Any thoughts, input or critique is welcome.
