Today I installed my Oil Pressure gauge, by putting a t-fitting in the factory sensors location just above the oil filter, and now its throwing codes.

P0198 - Engine Oil Temperature Sensor High

The truck is running normal, nothing seems to be out of place, but yet I can not clear this code. How easy are these sensors to mess up when moving about with them, it went to the hardware store with me, and was dropped a couple times while being replaced into the t fitting. Could this be the problem? How would I know?

The oil is from when I first put it in, haven't wiped it off yet. Too busy trying to figure out this Check engine light.

I shouldn't need one. There are basically 5 potential causes. The signal circuit is open or shorted to power. The ground circuit is open. The sensor is bad. The PCM is bad. Judging by what you've said, the sensor seems like the most likely culprit or you may have damaged the wiring/connector during installation.

Is there a way to check which one it is?

Make sure the wires didn't get pushed back out of the connector. You could take a DVOM and check the wires for contunity between the sending unit and PCM but this seems unlikely as does a faulty PCM. If the wires aren't pushed out of the connector at the sending unit, I'd say it's most likely the sending unit itself.

Okay. Just checked the wires on the back of the sensor and they seem fine. Where would be the best place to get a replacement sensor? An autoparts store or a dealership?

Got a sensor, swapped them out, and it's all fixed now. No problems.
