So I was driving home last night on the highway. Cruise control set somewhere be tween 70-75. I had been driving for about 35 min like this when all of the sudden my truck just starts slowing down. I couldn't rev it up and the wheels locked up. I managed to get to the side of the road and called a tow truck. I couldn't restart the truck at all. I didn't hear any weird clunking sounds or what not and there was no smoke or anything either.

Anyone have any idea what could have happened?

Was it seeming to turn over fine? Did the steering wheel lock or are you saying the tires locked up?

It seemed to turn over fine it just wont start. The steering wheel locked up. It could still turn but was extremely difficult. The tow guy was still able to turn it enough to get it straight on the low truck and I was able to get over from the left lane into the right shoulder.

The tow guy suggested that an ignition coil might have gone out and that there may be an electrical problem.

I had my radio replaced yesterday because my old one stopped working. I had it done at a reputable shop but I guess theres a possibility they just messed up a wire?

Talked to the shop this morning. The guy said it might be the fuel pump and that's where he would start checking.

Anyone have any ideas yet?

I'm wondering if this could be related to the Lean codes you were getting previously since they could have been caused by low fuel pressure. Maybe that was a sign your fuel pump was going.

Real easy to tell if a fuel pump is bad.

Turn the key to on.. if you don't hear the gentle whine of the pump priming the system then there you go. Check the fuse but it most likely is the pump itself.

Talked to the shop again after my last post and they said there was no fuel pressure. They check all the fuses and everything was fine there. He just had to get it up on the lift to check closer to the pump to see if there was still power there. Most likely it's the fuel pump.

I'm wondering the same thing. Though I did clear the codes about a week and a half ago and the lean code never came back. Also my idle problem seemed to have stopped about 4 or 5 days ago. I am curious if those were just precursor warnings though.

Easy enough to check. I would take the gas cap off and have someone turn on the ignition while listening at the fill pipe. If you don't hear the pump prime then check fuses. If it does prime, usually for about three seconds then check at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail for fuel pressure.

Got a call from the shop this morning, it was a bad fuel pump. They are changing it out now and I should have my truck back later today.

Thanks everyone for the help.
