I have a single flowmaster 40 series muffler that i just connected to the stock pipes. Getting sick of the look of the pipe and wanting to dump it straight down after the muffler. How will this change the sound my exhaust? I assume it will make it louder because of the sound coming back up off the ground correct?

Dumped is awesome sounding . But as stated under the cab you will get some drone , and make sure your muffler is not straight threw as you will loose low end power .

Mine is dumped right after the muffler, and it sounds good, I have a single chamber flow right now, i like it a lot. It will sound good in my opinion. Here is mine

It will drone the closer it is to the cab, if your muffler is right under the cab be prepared for a drone, if it is back by the rear end, it wont be nearly as bad, however it will not be as loud pointing at the ground, as it would cut off and angled out into the open. The ground will actually muffel the sound of the exhaust.

My truck is loud, no question there, however it is louder (and quite annoying in the cab) without the turn down on the cutout.

So will it be louder than it is now cut off and dumped, in that respect yes, will it be as loud as it can be, no.

I had thought about doing this as I am getting tired of the hangers constantly breaking on my duals.

What muffler do you guys recommend? I want to do this mod just for the sound. Should I also cut off the resonator?
