I have to prime the fuel lines before it starts.

I have to turn the key to the on positioin and let it sit for a few seconds before it will start. What possible causes would this be? Fuel filter or something more?

It is probably not holding pressure in the lines. This is caused by a leaking injector but more commonly a bad check valve in the fuel pump. There is no serviceable fuel filter.
