How hard would you think swapping to a 4th gen coil over suspension would be? If I could get a hold of all the brackets and mounting equipment for the axle and get a hold of all the parts, about how hard do you guys think it be? Is the frame on the 4th gens the same as close to the same as the 3rd gens?

I don't have one of each in the shop right now to compare the two but I can't imagine it being worth the effort, personally. I prefer the height adjustability of torsion bars because you can get a better alignment.

Are you talking front or rear? The 4th gen front end is the same as the 3rd gen. So the front swap would be relatively easy, although not a bolt on. The back end I can't say.

If we're talking a 4x4 then the difference is torsion bars versus the coils.

Yeah, I guess I always have 4x4 on my mind. I believe truckin is a 2wd.

2wd, front should be the same, looking more for the rear setup

Oh ok. 2wd's sit so high these days it's hard to tell from a pic. You're wanting to convert from leafs to coils?

Gotta love the leafs on a 2wd. Too stiff for daily driving, too soft for hauling. It's like they designed them to purposely meet the worst of both worlds.

It would be awesome to have the coils

If it's too stiff, why not pull a leaf out? I did it with a truck I had years ago to lower it and the improvement in the ride was perfect.

That doesn't really fix the handling issue back there. It does soften the ride though.

Pull a leaf and you lose the use of actually using the bed of the truck which I do use every now and then. YOu can add in helper bags but again that doesnt help the handling or ride.

The coil over setup with their 5 link (?) gives a much better ride quality in traction, handling and over all smoothness of the ride itself without losing the ability to load the truck up and use it as a truck when those 2 days out of the year come up.

for the money spent on converting it you could probably be fairly close to having a full procharger setup on the truck....;)

And still be bouncing all around on the road... Handling and ride quality are just as important as making a lot of hp and tq.

As long as the frames are the same, it shouldnt be to expensive to work out.

Thought about it but everything I have read and everyone I have asked said doing a one off 4 link is not worth the time or effort. But if the 4th gens setup is a fairly simple conversion (as long as the frame is the same and just need some mounts) then it should be pretty straight forward I would think/hope

I'm sure your best route would be to run a linked rear setup on bags that is designed for the 3rd gen trucks. Air up to haul a load air down to haul ass with good weight transfer at the track.
