You guys are really fine tuning here when comparing QC and RC models. Looking at the two the QC are what 600 pounds heavier and something like 30" longer. The longer wheel base probably makes the biggest difference. Same basic engine mods, trans and gear ratio should give very similar results with the RC having only a slight advantage. Maybe a RC with 3000 stall, 4:56 with a XFI 273 would make a good combo. The XFI still has 114 LSA. Anyone have thoughts about tuning with the SMT6 or something other than SCT or DSP?

Talk to Danniel (Kay9) he put a 273 in his rc. Its to much of a high end cam, he put in 4.88's and that wasn't enough, he also wants to put in a 3400-3600 stall. That cam is almost all top end. The 268 is more of a mid/mid-hi cam, so you still get a nice strong mid range.

I hadn't heard anything from Daniel about how his install went. But thought he was on track building a very serious street/strip truck. I figured the 4:88's would handle any of the cams and the high stall TC would be icing on the cake. Just couldn't see how he was going to hook it up without tubs and fat tires.

From what I have heard (even with his 456's and 2800 stall in) it was a dog off the line until it picked up, it is a top end cam. Its an aggressive cam but its a top end cam that (I believe) makes most of its power/tq above 6k rpms. I dont think he's taken it to the track yet, haven't heard much since he lost his drive shaft on the highway. I'd ask him to post up here but some ********* made a few comments about his truck so he quit this site.

Someone on DT posted the powerbands on the 260 268 and 273 and the 268 is the best of both worlds according to the dyno numbers.

^^^Haha teach was it you? sorry brain is still waking up at work. If the truck was a track only truck with a stroker then the 273 is the ticket a street truck a comp 268 with 2800-3k stall would be golden.

I found that chart on some site a while back when I was comparing cams. It is good info bc it shows exactly where each cam is making power.

Pare, after i saw this i wanted to research exactly what Daniel was doing on his truck and realized that he takes his truck to Chris (at mike's place) to get the work done meaning most of the work is done by Chris. And after more research i realized I have had a few conversations with Chris regarding his build (small world). I think the build is still ongoing but he needs to take it to a track and run it so we can look at the timeslip and determine where any improvement needs to be done..

Yep, Im hoping it will be, I got a 2800 stall and the 4.56's so that should put me right where I want to be for that cam.

See Red - the 273 puts out the most power but take a look where trhat power is being made. To get it to its sweet spot you really need more lowend. The 268 has it beat up to about 6k rpms and then it hits where the 273 starts hitting its sweet spot and building more power.

I know I was pissed about it too, we've had nice long talks about what direction we are going with our trucks, and his truck is absolutely sweet in person (helped for a little while while they were putting the 273 in). But a couple guys didn't think about there comments and bashed his ride in the process so he took off.

Yeah we were over there for a while when chris was doing the cam install and UD, I couldn't stay the whole day though so I never got to hear it fire up.

You will need dsp to max out the rev limiter or else the stock rev limiter will stop it soon as the 273 gets goin.

Everyone is looking for the magical combination, that's why there are so many cams and add-on available. And the way i see it if some choose a different way to get what they are looking for it is not our place to knock them or their rides. Hell i got a shed full of engine parts I have run over the years that didn't quite work out the way I had planned. So what, it's being out there doing something that makes it interesting and if there is an occassion we can get it right then that's the reward. The combo Daniel is working on is not his first and probably won't be his last, but I wish him the best. rant over...

...my combo is magic... it was a long journey but i have nothing left to do but stroke it now (not really in my plans but I said the same thing about spray), not many qc's faster then me (can count them on 1 hand)... I have over 191k miles on my 05 which shows how much I love driving it on the street, for a qc i feel a spartan is the best cam for it as well (I wouldn't suggest it for rc's). The 1st drive after my cam install put a BIG smile on my face (that's what mods should do) and made it bigger after the custom tuning..

Ken,
DSP can't adjust rev limiter or the speed restricter. I believe that is why folks stack SC with other tuners.
