Everything but the actual removal of the engine can be done with hand tools. Unless you know some guys with REALLY big hands lol

yours will be fun since your lifted. Alot of sockets metric I bet, screwdrivers, torx, allen wrenchs, I would get some combination wrenches, cutters, and a **** ton of lables to make everything. because your lifted i doubt a standard engine hoist will work you'll need one that bolted to the ceiling. Depending you experience on doing major work like that I'd say a full weekend to hopefully not more than a week.

Dan has been hanging out with Rocktman too much. lol

You will need a full day to get it out. Go buy a chiltons or a haynes manual and read up on it.

As far as hoist height, take your tires off and set it on blocks. You'll be fine.

NOTE: This procedure applies to both the 4X2 and 4X4 vehicles, steps that apply to the 4X4 vehicle only, are identified.

1. Release fuel rail pressure then disconnect the fuel supply quick connect fitting at the fuel rail.
2. Disconnect the battery negative and positive cables.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove exhaust crossover pipe from exhaust manifolds.
5. 4X4 vehicles Disconnect axle vent tube from left side engine mount.

7. 4X4 vehicles Remove locknut from left and right side engine mount brackets.
8. Disconnect two ground straps from the lower left hand side and one ground strap from the lower right hand side of the engine.
9. Disconnect crankshaft position sensor.

NOTE: The following step applies to 4X4 vehicles equipped with automatic transmission only.

10. 4X4 vehicles Remove the axle isolator bracket from the engine, transmission and the axle.
11. Remove structural cover.
12. Remove starter.
13. Drain cooling system.
14. Remove torque converter bolts (Automatic Transmission Only).
15. Remove transmission to engine mounting bolts.
16. Disconnect the engine block heater power cable from the block heater, if equipped.
17. Lower vehicle.
18. Remove throttle body resonator assembly and air inlet hose.
19. Disconnect throttle and speed control cables.
20. Disconnect tube from both the left and right side crankcase breathers. Remove breathers
21. Discharge A/C system.
22. Remove A/C compressor.

28. Disconnect the two heater hoses from the timing chain cover and heater core.
29. Unclip and remove heater hoses and tubes from the intake manifold.
30. Disconnect engine harness at the following points :

Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor (4)
Fuel Injectors
Throttle Position (TPS) Switch (2)
Idle Air Control (IAC) Motor (3)
Engine Oil Pressure Switch
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor
Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) Sensor
Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor
Coil Over Plugs

31. Disconnect the vacuum lines at the throttle body and intake manifold.
32. Remove power steering pump and position out of the way.

Steps 33 & 34 omitted because you won't have the special lifting tool we use.
35. Disconnect body ground strap at the right side cowl.

For some reason I can't copy and paste the photos from the factory manual on this forum like I can some others. Are you planning on a complete swap or are you going to tear into the existing 4.7?

Ah, ok. The nice thing about the wiring harnesses in these trucks is that they're pretty well molded to where they go and the connecters are generally idiot-proof so you can't mix them up and this will reduce your labeling time significantly. When I pull an engine, I use a lot of plastic storage bins for the nuts, bolts and any small parts and I label the bins with a Sharpie. Any air/electric tools you can use will make the work go a lot faster. You can remove the front fender liners for a little extra access to the sides of the engine if needed.

Sucks wer as far apart as we are. Couple years ago me and my dad built a hoist for lifting cabs off with. Im sure it would get your engine out. Is there any way to take it out from underneath?
