I have been looking for a cam for my hemi ram and have a question. A buddy of mine said that the least expensive route would be to get a 6.1 reground. The question I have is with the wide lsa of 6.1 cams, will I have enough low end to get my quad cab moving? Any input is appreciated

a lot of guys have done exactly this. the low end torque loss isnt really all that bad from what i hear. and you can easily combat that with a set of gears.

That is the problem, I don't have the funds for gears. I want to make sure that I will still have power with the cam without having to do additional mods. So I am thinking that without gears a 6.1 regrind won't have the guts down low that I need to get the truck moving.

Get a Comp 260, Interia Crazy Jay, Crazy Spartan or find a used Sidewinder. I had a 6.1 regrind and your the same either way. Say you pick up a used stock 6.1 then you shell out 250 for the crower regrind then you need custom cut push rods at 200 I think. What do you have far as a tuner at the moment?

I am running a superchip. Not really looking for a custom tune which is another reason I am looking at the 6.1 regrind. Heard that they run fine on superchip. Do you know anyone with a 6.1 regrind in a heavy truck like a qc 4x4? I would like to hear their feedback.

Rubberfrog has a 6.1 regrind in his truck I believe but all the cams llisted above will run on a sc tune (or at least should run on an sc tune). Once you get into the bigger cams then you need a tune.

I am not familiar with his truck. Is it a heavier truck? Does he have good low end power?

I think George said something to me about doing some family stuff today - he might not be on to reply.

Basically, George has a 6.1 reground cam in this big old beast:

It'll smoke 35s too, while passing emissions! :D

Can he smoke them by just stomping it or does he need to powerbrake it? What version lsa of the 6.1 does he have bc I heard there are two different 6.1's.

I believe you cannot change the lsa on a regrind so it will be bout what the stock 6.1 lsa is (114-116) which is very pcm friendly.

Well I ask about the lsa bc I read there is a 115 and a 117 version.

Here is his truck

[yt]vsqkZyFO8t0[/yt]

After watching that it looks like he is on the brakes. The truck noses down when he hits the gas. I guess a 6.1 isn't what I am looking for bc I want something that will really smoke them and something that will spin them without brakes.

Will any of the other suggested cams give me more power than that 6.1 will?

frog's grind is about the most power you're gonna get out of a superchips friendly cam. If you want to smoke the tires from a get-go, get a bigger cam and a custom tune and/or gears.

There's no brakes in that. I just lift off the brakes and stab the gas. Obviously I had perfect weather, I can't do that quite so well in the summer time.

As mentioned previously, you can't get much more aggressive on a canned tune. My grind is a little more aggressive than a sidewinder/260 and is not mds friendly. If you like your mds, stick with a milder cam.

I don't know what you're running for tires, but I would love to see what I could do on a set of 32s without the shell.

I have a 115* lsa with a 4* advance.

There has to be some brakes in that. The rear wheels start turning and then nose of the truck dips before going forward. Still nice video but not a stomp and go.
