I m not getting oil pressure when i turn my truck on from a cold start or when its been off for a couple hours. When this happens i just turn it off then turn it back on and the pressure is fine what could be causing this.

Convert, for now.
Engine
small
Could be normal wear and tear, it takes cold oil a second to get up top and get decent pressure.

The sensor port is within a couple inches of the pump and should see pressure almost immediately.
I lost oil pressure not long ago and pulled the sensor to see if I had any real pressure and didn't have any. I replaced the oil pump and thoroughly inspected the pickup tube. Installed a o ring and a small mechanical gauge at the sensor port. Fired up and all is good, getting 65psi.

I would first check the sensor.

Im going to have to look into that. My neighbor said it could be a bad sending unit hes a mechanic but he only works on old cars pre efi would that cause the loss of oil pressure

A faulty sensor I would say is the most common cause. What we have is not what you think we have and that is a gauge. What we have is a indicator that looks like a gauge. If the pressure is more than 5psi the gauge reads in the middle, when less than 5 psi it reads zero and sounds a ding and throws a code. It is nothing more than an idiot light that looks like a gauge.

The oil pressure senders on these trucks suck. Big time.

It's located on the left front of the engine on the passenger side. Look at the picture I posted. The gauge is Tee'd to the sensor.

I would think any local parts store will have one. Dealer if you can't find one.
