I have a 2004 3500 5.7 w 4x4. My oil pan had developed a leak, not bad, but leaving penny size oil marks on the driveway over night.
I have read that you need to either raise the engine, or drop the axle to get out the oil pan. I looked this morning and it appears that I have clearance to pull the pan with out lifting the engine or dropping axle. Is the engine/axle work required or is that only on the 1500's?
If any one has done this repair, any tips?

The oil pick up tube inside the pan will prevent you from simply sliding the oil pan back and down. There should be just enough room to unbolt the pick up tube from the bottom of the block once you get the oil pan loose. I was able to get the pan off and on my '06 which is 4x4 and on a 2500 chassis without lifting the engine.
