So, I went to the dump today, and on the way, I was noticing a small ticking noise. The dump is about 4 miles away. As we leave the dump, my power steering decides it's tired of doing all that work and takes a break...the noise is louder and I'm fighting to steer to get home...we have to stop at the store on the way, and while the SO is inside I take a look at the problem...my power steering pulley is wiggling like crazy...I know what's about to happen, but I also need to get my pregnant SO home, so we leave the store and about a mile to go, I hear it...prklump...thubbathubba...clunk clunk and see my pulley and belt behind me on the road. I made it home, dangerously close to overheating, and I really hope it didn't screw up my engine it having the belt for most of a mile...here's a few pics of what's left...

Is it worth trying just a new pulley or just get a whole new pump?

It's very likely something in your PS pump (bearing) wore out which ate the pulley up over time.

I would get a new pump and a new pulley.

I had a Grand AM 3.4L do that to me once. The pump was fine it was just the cheap assed pulley that broke.

Strange stuff... I'd probably just get a new pump and pulley.
