I have 2003 dodge ram 1500 with a 4.7. It has 84000 miles on the engine. When i start it up it acts like it is choking and the exhaust tips have a fuel dusting that wipes off easily. After it warms up it will start ok but the rpm's are not steady.

Start with a fresh tune up, clean the throttle body, check your pcv valve, and air idle control module.....

Also , do you happen to know anything about the sensor that is located on the air box just after the flexible hose. What purpose does it serve.

Would that be the tps? That might fix your rough idle a little bit. Mine went bad, didn't throw any codes but helped with the rough idle slightly. I'm still trying to figure out the rest of it. Gonna clean my throttle body soon and see if that helps.

I think that is the air intake temp sensor. It just tells the pcm to run leaner or richer during outside temps.

Thanks to all for your help on my 4.7 problems. Im better with the muscle cars . I have 2 1969 roadrunners and a 1973 dart. The dart is a 499 inch wedge on alky. 1st pass it ran 6.68 1.48 60 ft. I was just trying to get the feel of the car, it didn't hit the 5000 shift light , i didn't hold it to the floor yet and i launched at 2000, no trans brake, no delay box, just old school foot brake.

No pics, its nothin special. It's red, has a roll cage, ladder bars, it has an original 340 hood scoop, 727 tf w/ reverse valve body and quarter stick , 4500 stall hemi converter, 3.91 gears, 14.5 diamond pistons, edelbrock aluminum victor heads with max-wedge ports , indy intake port matched, 653 solid, 310/328 erson cam, 440 source main girdle, front and mid plate, a ken jones 1050 alky dominator. I will keep you updated on the et's. Going this friday to I 57 Dragstrip benton Illinois for some more practice . The track owner even said that motor sounds mean. I put this motor together myself.
