I have an 04 1500 5.7 4dr 4x4 thats going to have a 6" lift on 37's soon. I have 3.92's right now (stock) and to push the 37's I know I will need at least a 4:56. I see a lot of people putting 4:88's instead of 4:56, Im no gear expert. Im going to buy some tonight to go ahead and get them installed before I get the lift and tires. What would your suggestions be? 4:56 or 4:88? I also have a Vararam CAI, custom true duals with 2.5" piping, X-pipe and 2 10 series flow masters, and a superchip. I plan on getting headers, cam, 6.1 heads, E Fans and so forth later on too. Also im looking at the Yukon gears, how much do they cost normally for everything you need for the rear alone? Thanks for any help

I would go with the 4.56s. Why?, your rpms are going to be really high if your driving on the freeway. The 4.56s run about $200 om summitracing.com or try amazon.

I have a 6" lift and 35's right now and still have the stock 3.92 gears. Unless you're going to be towing a decent amount I think you will be just about fine. Unless you can do all the work yourself regearing might not be the best use of that cash in my opinion. I would love to upgrade to 4.10's or 4.55's and one day I'm sure I will but with a proper tuner to adjust shift point you should give the 3.92's a shot. Unless money is no option grab some 4.10's for a good balance.

I have decided to go with the 4:56's because of RPM's, the only thing I need to figure out is what is my front axle? I have looked online and one site said that my 04 ram 1500 4x4 has a Crysler AAM 9.25" but someone else says its a 8", does anyone know what axle it is? I already know what the rear is

Behind the passenger headlight is a metal plate with the options on your truck stamped into it. You can grab a picture of the plate with a smart phone and then look the codes up. That is pretty much the birth certificate of your truck.

You should be able to find which front axle option you have from this code list.

That being said, the 9" Chrysler corporate Axle is usually found at the rear and the front Axle is most often the 205mm (8 inch). Also the codes will let you know which gear settings you have in those axles.

Hope this helps.

I guess the site I found that said any 02 and up ram 1500 4x4 has an AAM 9.25 front end is wrong then. Looks like 4:56's it is then, I know the rear is a Chrysler 9.25" but wasnt sure about the front.

Also do yall recommend any specific brand or does it really matter? I heard what matters most is who installs them.

XB1230 I just went out and looked for that plate I could not find it. Also I was just checking things out under the body and found this 1" hose that lead to a small small filter to the left of the driveshaft and kind of behind the transmission, I have no idea what it is but the connection that keeps the hose connected to the filer has broken off. I need help finding out what it is. I will post a couple pics if anyone can help

IFS front end is a 8"

8" Chrysler? When I regear does it matter about brand as much as who installs them? I know G2 & Yukon gears are anywhere from $285-$300 for 4:56 on both front and rear.

4.56 is the lowest ratio you can go with for these axles. I have them in my truck on 40's and it turns them just fine. I even get pretty good fuel mileage, average of about 13 mpg city, but I have gotten as high as 16 mpg city.

I wouldn't even know what to do with a truck this big. I wish my work didn't have 7' maximum height entrances. Lol and I don't even get 13 city with my stock truck! Very jealous

I like to take it off-road and to mud bogs. Trails are tough because it's too big for most. It's a good daily driver though, it handles pretty nicely. Height clearances definitely suck, lot's of places it won't fit under, but I can still get through a good amount of drive-thru restaurants lol

Here's a more recent pic of it

Why did you go with Longtubes than shortys? Also how do you like your programer? I have a superchip and really like it. It really let the hemi loose from that factory tune

Long tubes give more performance over shortys.

Staxx, how much was your lift if you don't mind my asking.

Guess il be getting long tubes then, what brand would you recommend? Also I have a question about wheels, since im getting the 6" lift with 37x12.50x18 tires and new wheels, what backspacing should I go with? I was thinking 4.5 but wasnt sure. I have 5.5 on the wheels I have now but only a leveling kit and my tires now are only 11.50" wide. What would you suggest?

The long tubes have much better flow which will help with the cam upgrade I'm hoping to finally do this year, and then give off a better sound. I like the programmer, it definitely made a big difference.

I originally paid $4200, not sure what I have into it now after replacing the leaf springs and remaking half of it out of thicker steel.

I like my Pacesetter, but you have to get the coated ones if you want them to last. I'd say 4.5 backspacing.

Not bad for that big of a lift. I was expecting double digits haha.
How is it with your cv axles? Must have been a ton of drop for the front diff. I get the vibration when I'm in 4wd now, couldn't imagine it with a lift lol.
