So when I am on the highway going between 55-65 I have a surge in RPM like the truck is trying to change gears. I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7. It also happens in cruise control.

A few ideas :
- Tranny slipping
- Something putting a drag on the truck making it want to almost downshift. the e-brakes can do that if they are stuck or the pad split from the shoe and it is getting wedged between the shoe and the rotor.

Hope this helps

For the Hemi its just the throttle body, accelerator pedal position sensor and the PCM, no TPS. Its sounds like the torque converter is going in and out of lock up. Torque converter clutch solenoid maybe?

So pissed right now since everything seems to be happening to my truck at once. Friend got me a hookup on 2014 Nissan Titan pro4x. Going to look at it tomorrow.

So, I was told that it might be my shift schedule that is causing this. Something to do with the TQ converter locking in and out.

that surging your talking about is taking place when you are cruising. I just read maintenance manual for my truck and the manual itself says that surge is cause of your egr valve staying open. Right now i am getting check engine light which is producing codes p1405 and p0405. With my research so far these codes lead me to the egr system.

I am having the same issue. I was throwing a Throttle Body Actuator code, so I pulled the throttle body and cleaned er up good and that has helped the issue but it is still there. Most notable in cruise control about 60mph when I head down a slight decline it shutters gently and the rpm raise. I know that a steep hill would warrant this but its just the change in road angle minor that causes this issue for me. Very confused.

So I'm having the same issue. Only mine does it only with the cruise set. I went back to the dealer today to pick the techs brain. He hooked up the scanner and found no codes, he also checked for updates for the computer and found I had the current update. He told me that something is making the torque converter lockup kick out, so he did a live scan and said all the parameters look ok and he would have to hook it and replicate the condition to get a definite diagnosis.

Look into the TSB list for the Dodge. It has something to do with the Shift Schedule. I'm going to alter mine to see if it fixes it.
