I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 with the 4.7. I change the oil every 3000-5000 with Mobil golden full synthetic 5/30w and filter. i have a mechanical oil pressure gauge and lately it wants to flutter a lot more than normal. it will do this normally at idle but now it does it when warm. It flutters about 6 psi up and down (so if its at 70psi it will flutter to about 67 and 73), not crazy fast you can still see the needle. not sure why its doing this so any insight helps.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry about it until it flutters below 40 at idle.

If you were not so far away I would come over when you do your oil change and keep the oil you drain, put it in my vehicles and drive another 5 to 8k. Then again you might have the only 4.7 in history that will reach 250,000 miles without needing the sludge scraped out and 2 sets of timing chains and guides.

How many miles do you have on it and did you buy it new? (curiosity)

Ever since I installed the gauge, when warm the idle sits around 25 but its always been that way.

Ive heard a lot about sludge and oil issues so wanted to make sure i didnt have that down the road. I pulled my valve covers a couple of months ago and it looks brand new.

I currently have 150,000 on it now, the truck was bought in 2006 and sold in 2008 to a family member and i bought it from him in 2015.

Unless the 4.7 is different than most other engines, 40psi at idle when fully warm sounds pretty high. That would almost make me worry that there may be a restriction somewhere. Most I've seen run 20-25psi at idle.
