I'm changing the oil today and am going to be going to Mobil 1. Is it ok to just drain the original oil and go ahead and put the new oil in, or do I need to do some type of flush to clear the old oil out so the new and old don't mix?

You should be fine just draining the old and putting in some new Mobil1 along with a filter change. What oil were you using before?

Maybe 10w-35? I forgot lol

If you were running synthetic then you should be fine, but IMO, if you were running Dino oil then I would run the Mobil1 for around 1k and change it again so the new synthetic can clean the engine. Thats just my 2cent.

I just picked up 7 qts Mobil 1 and Filter at Oreillys for $50. cant beat that.

As for the OP, shouldnt ever have to flush your oil out. When you drain it completely theres only about a cup or so left in the engine. Even switching from regular to synthetic its not necessary to flush it out.

Same thing with gas. You dont have to flush out your fuel lines when you go from 87 to 91, so why would you with oil?

flushing the oil AFTER switching from conventional oil to synthetic is RECOMENDED .
at or around 1k to flush all the crap out that the synthetic breaks up . Its called gum ...not the chewing kind ,,, the sludge ect ..

WalMart carries 5 qt jugs of Mobil1 for like 22-26 bucks........I can't remember. Nab 3 of 'em and you have enough for 2 changes (and a bit more), its a lot cheaper than buying quarts.

The next time I'm due for an oil change I will go with Mobil 1 and just do the oil change in my driveway..I just don't really know of anywhere to dispose of the oil..

Oh yeah, and I know that Mobil 1 is rated for 6k miles right? So if I change my oil filter at say, 3k miles, will oil come flying out of the socket where the filter goes or will I be safe to pull the filter off and change it w/o oil going everywhere? lol

on this truck and the gtp i started w/ 1/4 synth 3/4 dino, then half and half then 3/4 then full. did this every 1k miles and it works out since you gradually break down all the **** in the engine and at the bottom of the oil pan

1st off, most Walmarts that have service centers recycle oil and most parts stores like Advance do also. As far as the oil filter goes if you use a Mobil1 Extended service filter,or the like, you can just change it with the oil.

k&n, mobile 1 and royal purple filters are all made by the same parent company. i know there is a lot more added to that list but, it just goes to show ppl will pay for brands

So I should be all set for the 5-6k miles and just changed the oil filter with the oil? I won't need to change the filter after maybe 3k miles?

I agree, if this is you first oil change using M1, I would at the very least chnge the filter after 1k. The M1 will break a lot of engine gunk loose the first time around.
