What's the difference in buying a 85-87mm throttle body and having one ported? I've seen a lot of positive posts about buying an 87mm but I've also seen a lot of negative posts about having one ported? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

The 85mm and 87mm TBs you see everyone buying are ported TBs. The size you buy should be dependent on the mods you plan to install. Basic bolt-ons should only run an 85mm, going with headers you should look at an 87mm. The true-bore TBs are for more performance oriented vehicles and are not a good match for the basic bolt-on engines.

The diameter advertised on ported TBs is the initial opening diameter, they all still maintain the stock 80mm butterfly. A true-bore TB uses a larger butterfly, so the BBK or Arrington 85mm use a true 85mm.

Its all in who ports it also. There are a few companys floating tb's out there that do not play well with the trucks. Our 85's have done great with the 3rd gens, my 05 is sporting a 85mm from Moes and looks a ton better then my 85 from Fastman thats on my 04....
