Hey guys,
I have had my 2003 dodge ram 1500 since 2005 and have never had a problem with throttle body icing. This winter got cold fast! like -15F for the past two weeks and I was driving home and all of a sudden my pickup went into limp mode and flashed the lighting bolt at me. No throttle response, rough idle and would barely run.
So i pulled some codes, P2174, P2175 and realized it was a throttle body intake problem. I then started pulling things apart and found the following;
Yes that is ice and oily sludge in the intake....

and the throttle body looked clean! I beleive because the 2003 do not have EGR. PS this has 180K on it and i have never cleaned it.

So i let everything dry off and put it back together, put a new air filter in and PCV valve thinking this was the issue. It ran fine for a day then it started again... So I called a dodge service tech i know and he said the throttle body design had changed to prevent this. So i put a new one on and I havent had an issue yet but i havent put many miles on yet for fear of being stranded in -15F conditions... Also when i went to put on the new throttle body I found the PCV valve was frozen shut..
Any thoughts comments or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
