so driving home my engine did a jerk and acted like it wouldn't shift down. im thinking oh **** there goes the tranny. the little red light in the lower left corner starts flashing. so i get home and check the manual and read the diagnostic. i get a p2138

throttle/ pedal position
sensor/switch
"D"/"E" voltage correlation

so i looked in my handy dandy chilton and found the throttle sensor on the throttle body, no sweat. im guessing this is a part i can get from either a dealership or advance auto. so my question after all that is there a difference in any? like a upgrade or something. one better than the other? thanks guys

I had to get a new TPS for my old truck and I was able to get it at Auto Zone. I think it was $40

I'd stay away from Autozone's electronics if they're still Duralast parts...

I've replaced my TB and there is no seperate TPS.
This is from the manual:
5.7L V-8
The 5.7L V-8 engine does not use a separate Throttle
Position Sensor (TPS) on the throttle body.

Hey guys, on the 5.7 the TPS is part of the TB.

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
DESCRIPTION
The 3-wire Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is
mounted on the throttle body and is connected to the
throttle blade shaft.
The 5.7L V-8 engine does not use a separate TPS
on the throttle body.

Time for a TB upgrade.......

I guess thats true cause my old truck was a 4.7 and it was separate from the TB.

It reads something like disconnect the battery for a couple minutes. I touch the cables together. Reconnect the battery and turn ignition on, but do not start for 10 seconds. Turn off then start.

Try resetting the TPS:

1) Insert ignition key and turn to "ON" (not start).
2) Wait for all idiot lights to go out. Check Engine Light may remain on.
3) Slowly depress the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor.
4) Slowly release the accelerator pedal until it's all the way back up.
5) Turn the ignition key to "OFF".
6) Start the engine.

Rus,
Your procedure is for a diesel.....

The 5.7 procedure from the manual is:

(6) If the throttle body has been changed, the following
procedure must be performed:
(a) Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.
Leave cable disconnected for approximately 90
seconds.
(b) Reconnect cable to battery.
(c) Turn ignition switch ON, but do not crank
engine.
(d) Leave ignition switch ON for a minimum of
10 seconds. This will allow PCM to learn throttle
body electrical parameters.
