For me to pull the old sidewinder out and go with something bigger and better. The sidewinder has served me well and has pulled my truck to a sub 5 0-60 which was my initial goal for the truck. But lately I have been getting the itch to go bigger. So I am going to have Comp grind me a custom cam for my truck. It has been designed with my other mods in mind and should pull harder than the sidewinder and not nose over at the top like the sidewinder. Hopefully it will get me back into modding the old girl. It's been a while since I had the engine apart.

Ugh. The guy I was buying them from didn't respond for a week the day I was supposed to send him the cash. Just didn't feel comfortable sending over a grand to a guy I don't know that just up and disappeared on me. Eventually I heard back from him but the excuse/reason he didn't respond didn't really make me feel comfortable so I ended up passing. Since then haven't been able to find a set so I have put that on the back burner for now.

They told me about two weeks. Here are the specs on the new cam. Bigger lift and duration, tighter LSA.

For comparison if you specd out the sidewinder with a 1.65 rr it would be:

212/212 .541/.541 @ 1.65 rr 114 LSA 110 ICL

The 8 degree split is supposed to be where it is at in these engines. Guess i will find out if it is true or not.

That should be fun.

I am hoping it makes the old girl more fun to drive. It has been a while since I have done any major mods since my new converter this summer. I have been getting the itch to do something just to mix it up.

That thing is gonna rack like a SOB lol. The 8* seems to be the sweet spot and single patterns and 2-4* are fading away. The new Super Spartan put 20 more HP to the ground then the sidewinder on the same truck far as the buzz. Have you considered decking the heads if you want alill more out of the stock ones?

I spoke to guy from lx who swapped from the sidewinder to the super Spartan. He actually told me that the difference wasn't all that noticeable and he felt like he lost some on the bottom end. That is really the main reason that I went custom grind bc he had a similar truck to mine and losing bottom end just isn't an option.

Humm glad to hear another option on it. There is one in shipping to a buddies house that will be going in a car. Cant wait to see the results yours makes for you. Are you doing a dyno tune or emailed tunes on it?

Email tune for now. I did find a place that will do a dyno tune but I have had such good luck with sean and his email tunes that I haven't felt the need to go for a dyno tune just yet. We will see how he does with this custom grind.
