2008 Ram, halfton, Hemi, 4x4, automatic, yadda, yadda, yadda... Only has a little over 60k on the clock but, the other day, I was turning off the main street onto another one to pull into the grocery store parking lot. Well, as I was slowing down to pull in, as I went to ease on the gas pedal to pull in, I realized the motor died. Started right up with no issues. No CEL light came on. Went in, shopped, came back out, fired up the truck and went home, no issues. Well, as I was turning off the highway onto my dirt road, I noticed the RPM's fell waaay down, but came back up. Thought it was kinda weird. Plus, at the same time it did that this time, I had the headlights on and they got a little dim for a second but came back.

For quite some time now I've noticed that almost every morning as I go to accelerate after backing out of my driveway that my headlights will go dim for a second but, there's no change on engine rpm.

Think this is related? Anybody else had a similar issue? Also if it matters, my truck is the Laramie so, it's got traction control on it too. Thanks.

Hi corneileous,

This is certainly not a situation we wish to hear from our customers, and would be more than willing to offer our assistance. If you find you would like to visit a dealership to have this addressed, please feel free to send us a private message.

My headlights dim a bit when I accelerate, randomly, but I've never had the shutting off issue. Hope it gets resolved soon!

Do you have traction control on yours? I'm not sure if that's related on mine or not but I've noticed the headlight dimming upon initial acceleration for quite some time now.

No I don't. I'm thinking my headlights dimming is my battery.. whenever I use my power windows, they dim too

I think almost everything I've driven with power windows has kinda dimmed the headlights upon rolling them up so I guess that's normal....lol.

How old is your battery? Two years ago I got rid of my factory mopar battery and replaced it with an Optima red top so, I doubt it's a battery issue. Well, I suppose it could. Any things possible, unfortunately.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm having an alternator issue.

Update.

It did it to me again today in the same spot as last time. Right after a hard braking to turn. Plus, after I left the grocery store and was stopping for a redlight, I didn't brake as hard but, it did it again. Rpms just went away to a stall right as I stopped. Had to put it in neutral to restart. First time today when it stalled like that, it kinda acted like it didn't wanna start back up. Second time it did it today at the red light it started right back up.

Any idea thoughts, ideas on what this is? It's kinda acting like it has a bad idle control valve or whatever that part is that usually has to do with stalling when stopping with the ac on.

Another update...

Sumbitch finally threw a code too, as I pulled in the driveway. After doing the key dance, P0-452 popped up for P0452 CHRYSLER - EVAP Pressure Switch Stuck Closed

Now that I think of it, I have noticed just from idling sometimes that the idle isn't steady every now and then. When idling, it'll sometimes drop in idle, then pick back up to normal idle speed.

At least after doing my coolant flush (I know it probably isn't related, just saying), the CEL went off and haven't noticed any further occurrences of the stalling or erratic idiling.

I haven't checked the battery terminals yet but, I'm assuming they are more than likely fine because I found out real quick after the first battery change that if they aren't clean and tight, the battery won't charge leading to a ruined battery. Before my red top Optima, I replaced the original Mopar battery with one of the standard OEM replacement batteries from Oreiley's and ended up having to junk that battery because the cables didn't get quite tight enough when it was changed in their parking lot. Found this out two days later when I woke to a dead battery. Threw a code saying battery voltage was low. Jumped it, started it, ran it for about another two or three days and bam, again, woke up to another dead battery being too low to start the truck. Put a wrench on the cables and tightened them down and viola, truck started up.

Moral of the story, not trying to make excuses since this truck is very, very picky about battery terminal tightness, I think they are good and tight but I will definitely check them this weekend and clean them with the wire brush tool. Maybe even leave the battery unhooked for a while and make sure the pcm gets a good reset.

Recently my voltage gauge was going up/down, up/down. The negative battery terminal had a good amount of corrosion on it. I pulled it off to clean it, and this is what I found. The terminal was completely split in several places.

Also, be sure to follow the ground cable, and make sure it's not broken anywhere.

Well, so far, I haven't experienced this issue in a while. Seems to be running a little better since that code cleared itself yet, I haven't done anything to it. lol. I'm kinda thinkin I may have to take the throttle body off and clean it maybe. Or at least do another round of sea foam down it's gullet.
