Whats everyone running in their tired engine? What's the best additives to keep wear down? I have an 02 4.7 with 107xxx and it's ticking away, it's not any manifold bolts or anything like that, it's a valve tap or similar. I've used everything under the sun and it won't shut up, although it did run quite for about two weeks when I added restore. So what have/ are you guys running?

Actually no I haven't, hard to find near me. I've heard pretty good things about it.

I run synthetic 5-30 in my 04, always have run that weight since I bought it with 56k miles(working on 123k now) The brand tends to change, right now it has pennzoil. Mine has burned oil since I've owned it an has gotten a lil bit worse overtime I think but I have beaten the **** out of the truck over the last 7 yrs so I'm not really suprised.

Shell Rotella T6 5w-40. It's engineered for diesel engines but works great in gas engines. I use it in motorcycles too. I do add a bottle of Restore when I change the oil in the truck as well.

I'm trying to stop the dry starts, nothing I use helps. I think I have to drop pan and check pick up screen.

Use conventional valvoline in mine. The truck is 15 years old there's no way off knowing what the previous owner is used and I'd prefer to not have risk oil leaks which I was told by my mechanic switching to synthetic could possibly cause.

Yes that is true because the molecules in synthetic are much smaller than conventional oil, so the synthetic oil finds leaks easier.

This isn't so much a problem as it used to be...when synthetic was introduced most domestic engines were still using cork gaskets, etc. If it was old enough synthetic would find its way though. Damn near every seal on these engines is an o-ring, so unless its been baked hard as a rock (not likely, they're pretty resilient) you're good. I haven't bought any of mine new and switched to synthetic as soon as I got them. All good and no leaks.

I run Pennzoil platinum after hearing a lot of good things about it. And I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Also if your truck is ticking it could also be an exhaust manifold leak. Not sure if you've checked that or not but it's a common problem on these 3rd gens.

Yes, every time I get a new to me vehicle, first thing I do is flush and change out all lubrication fluids and plugs then i see what else it needs as I drive.

I switched to redline around 110,000 and my engine is quieter than its ever been.. runs great with it! Worth the extra price in my opinion.
