Has anyone ever heard of the valve cover bolts breaking off into the block? My stepdad heard that around 70k miles the bolts fail and break off into the block... supposedly his buddies truck had like 4 on each side break off... if this is true, should I replace mine?

Bolts are made of steel and go into aluminum and are only lightly torqued at 70 Inch Pounds, so basically when you are just about there the black rubber under the washer expands and you know its good when the torque wrench clicks. had mine off three times and just clean the threads with workwheel or dremel brush. Also recommend not trying to remove these when the engine is Hot. IMO you'll be fine.

Never heard of it being a problem. Maybe your Dad is thinking exhaust bolts.

I have had that happen, but it was on a 352 from a 63 Ford Galaxy engine I had in my 75 F250. Have not heard of it happening in these engines though.
