So my truck is at 205k miles I was wondering what works best with high milage motors. Im running the 4.7l, but everytime I change my oil I'm getting less than half back and I'm burning it somewhere I think I need to change the head gaskets but besides thathe what oils have yall found to work the best and burn slower

Hands down Royal purple. Its not cheap but Im sold on the stuff. Take a look at some of the video they did with Royal purple in the friction machine. I think that says it all. Now to put this in perspective with what you said about burning oil off. If the Royal Purple keeps friction down as well as the video shows then your motor would live longer then standard oil out there.

Valvoline, Castrol, I've used different ones thru the years all synthetic tho. Key is timely oil changes, my buddy has an 07 ram 4.7 that his dad bought new an has been a work truck since day one an has 260k miles an he's never done an oil change in it himself always gone to the dealer lol.

Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic 5w40 and a can of Restore 8 cylinder formula at each oil change. Been changing the oil and filter at around 6000 to 8000 miles. Sent a sample off to Blackstone Labs from the last change on this past Friday to see how the engine is doing. 186,700 miles and still running strong.

My truck burned through about a quart of Royal Purple in 5k miles when I used it. Always used mobil 1 5w20 before that and since.

So another question I have is what's the difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30? And so on. It's just oil thickness right? And how does using these different kinds affect the engine?

It's all the same, just change it and you will be fine.
