i use conventional oil but not the cheap stuff and i have a good filter put in i was having jiffy lube do my oil changes and found out the put crappy filters and oil in my truck.

i have 106k miles on it and do a LOT of highway drives... no towing. my book says 6k for oil change is that ok to do with higher mileage? this guy i work with swears i am going to kill the life of the engine if i don't change it at around 3k... he says until 75k it was ok to go 6 k but now its over 100k i need to change to every 3 k.... does this make any sense to any one?

All depends on the oil you're using. Give us exact details and we can help you more.

I swear by and recommend using full synthetic such as Royal Purple.

not sure what brand it is... I'm thinking pennzoil but might be wrong. not sure on the filter but its a silver or gold star filter. i know its a semi conventional oil... i had a mechanic friend change my oil last time... I'm around 6 k on the oil change and getting it changed soon I'm going to find out but my oil is still clear and not black or gritty like it got before 5k miles using jiffy lube...

I usually change my oil every 5000 kilometers on both my vehicles. My car has 214,000 kilometers on it and my Ram has 184,000 kilometers on it. And I use conventional oil in both of them. So I say your good with 6000K between changes. Actually just had my car done today and I was at 6300K between changes when I did it.

I use AMSOIL Synthetic 5W20 oil with a Mobil 1 Extended Performance Synthetic oil filter. I change both every 5,000 miles on my Hemi. 68K miles on my truck.

5K and 70K miles on our truck. I use Amsoil typically, but have switched to Royal Purple because getting Amsoil on the road is not as easy as stopping off at Walmart.

Did my first change at 4400. Indicator said 50% life left but I wanted the first one out of the way. I have dealer do them while under warranty. They only charged me $33 w/tax! And they washed it for me. Just the oil and filter (without labor) would have cost me $30 if would have done it myself. Standard 5-20 Mopar dino oil & filter.

I use Penzoil Conventional (yellow bottle) 5W-20, which is the factory fill now, and K&N filters every 5K miles or so. Usually says around 40-50% on the EVIC. 18K miles on my truck so far and no issues or tick. (other than the usual injector sounds)
I might switch to 5W-30 after 100K miles if I still own my truck.

When I used to do oil testing penzoil did no better than no name oil and when they amalgamated with QS it was always par with QS amsoil aways blew ever other oil out of the water. Never did any testing on royal purple but always hear good stuff. I run synthetic and a medium duty filter only use fram as last resort because I have seen to many fail and I like the filters that have the paper crimped to the metal plates not glued to paper like fram. As for how long I run I change oil at 5000+ miles if hwy or 3000 if stop and go but when I have to add oil its a sign that the oil has broken down and change it right away. Amsoil can easly go 15-20 thousand miles with filter changes every 3-5 thousand miles.

I do mine every 6-8k using red line oil/royal purple filter. My only problem is that it takes me a year to get 8k, so I have my truck going almost 3 years (in may), and i am up to 21k miles.
