Have to change my passenger wheel bearing(Aka hub), so I figured I'd do both.

Read somewhere that you shouldn't reuse an axle nut for the cv shaft. This true?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks

I do it all the time and have never once had a problem.

Your absolute best hub/bearing prices will be found at Detroit Axle hands down. I buy parts from them for a lot of different makes, big blue in my siggy is riding on a set right now.

So you're saying I can reuse the axle nut?

I was hoping to get some from rock auto as I have a $100 gift card from them. WJB brand any good? It's one of rock autos most common sold wheel hub for my year. And they're only $66 each.

Yes you can reuse them I've done it many times, right there with you might be doing my drivers side as I'm off work the rest of the week.

Maybe I'll just do my passenger now, and buy a better quality hub. I just have hard time, cause they all look the dang same lol... I'd be happy with a 40K mile hub vs a 60k mile hub (guesstimates), since I only drive about 5k miles a year lol

I asked the question about brands and also on cheaper shocks and got no reply.

Also someone mentioned using your steering with an extension on the hub bolts to press it out, not sure markva or Ron Jon maybe, but sounds a hell of a lot better than beating on the thing forever if it doesn't want to budge, which most don't.

Yeah, I saw that somewhere too. I haven't quite decided where I'll get my bearings from yet.... If I go with Detroit Axle Jamman suggested, They'll be a little over $100 for both, whereas the ones from Rock Auto would be about $130 or so with shipping. Even though I have a gift card, I might pick up those ones from Detroit first, once they get back to me in regards to whether they have military discount or not ;)

Are you sure you're not thinking about the pinion nut? Those shouldn't be reused.

No, I saw it in some "how to" somewhere... probably just them covering their asses liability wise. You know someone out there would have a nut fail, and they'd say "You said it'd be okay", and sue them lol

I know what he was talking about, I was wondering if maybe he heard that about the pinion nut and mixed up the two. LOL

I've heard it said to not re-use them... but that's cause the keeper tab that gets bent over in the notch to keep it from backing out "may" break off.

you can reuse them, just don't mess up the lock tab if it has one when taking it off.

And Timken is your best bet.... 100k plus miles out of them or more.
they are around twice as much but you get twice the quality

Thanks for the input. I'll certainly price them out.

Where can you get a new nut? Rock auto didn't sell them lol... And couldn't find them else where cause I wasn't sure what to call them.

I would've thought timken too but I've heard some people say they've had bad luck with them too and they are cheaping out on their parts and junk just like the rest. That's why I asked what brand people thought.
