Bought a 2014 Ram 1500 cc sport with the 8.4 nav, dual climate, heated and cooled seats ect... The radio started going crazy like it is possesed, screen locks and move between functions or change station ect, screen will go black sometimes, screen will go white and say insert usb other times, other times wont come on at all and sometimes works fine. It does it on a daily basis and not in any speciffic order. Any idea what it may be? I love the truck but regretting on buying it because it, any other car i would of put after market in already and called it quits but I cant do the the climate and everything going through it. Ive looked at the new alpines on line but it says not compatible with the 8.4. Are there any after market fixes out there where will retain full climate control?Fan speed, vent selection ect......? Do alot of people have similar issues? Suks driving 2 hrs with no radio or anything else.....

I would try disconnecting the battery for a bit and pull the radio fuse (single wire near the battery) to see if that resets it. Otherwise I would think it's a warranty issue. If neither work, eBay or the for sale section here would be next best. The super expensive alpine ones made for ram are probably very nice.

I would try the alpine but per there site it is not compatable with the 8.4.. Maybe there are members on here that have done a after market swap and retained the full climate function on touch screen, fan, vent ect...

RA3 with Nav or an RA4 with Nav ?
If it's the RA4 you may try a factory reset , the reset is available in the settings menu.

I might would hesitate the reset if your radio is an RA3 , because you may loose the Navigation. ..

Do you have HD radio? If you do its an RA4. Which is the factory Nav unit. If you don't have HD Radio it's an RA3 with the Nav feature activated

In settings you should find a system information screen like this .

This isn't mine .

The map database will include a VP3 or VP4 / same thing as RA3 & RA4 .

You should also find the factory reset there as well .
Remember if the VP3/RA3 I do not recommend the reset .

Dealer tried and no luck!
Most dealerships are not well versed with the radios in 2013 + Ram's ....just so you know Sir .
For better info & troubleshooting , I recommend the link to the conversion thread I linked above or www.navrepair.com.

Hope this helps !

Oh and welcome to the forum from Tennessee Sir !

You can go to engineering mode by pressing the red up button & the blue down button ( hvac) for 5 seconds and get the p/n & s/n of your radio .
Also go to settings and post up the Nav database & software version .
I suggest taking a picture of all vital info & post them up here prior to a factory reset. .

I've had a few PM's with LawDawg. His options:

Under warranty: Make the dealer fix/replace the radio ** best option

Replace the RA4 with a used RA4. Direct swap, done. (Gave him a link to one)

Go aftermarket with an iDataLink Maestro interface (keeps factory settings in radio menus) and an iDataLink compatible touchscreen radio from kenwood, pioneer, etc.

Austin @ Navrepair could fix it also.

If you have the dual zone , try the red up and blue down on the drivers side for 5 seconds .

Information only:

For engineering mode = press the hot + cold buttons at the same time for 5 seconds .

For dealer mode = press hot + cold + defrost at the same time for 5 seconds

If dual zone the hot & cold buttons are the drivers side only .

Surf those menus and you will find
Reset to factory default
Clear personal data
Radio reset
Different system checks and so on .

Hope this helps !
