Not sure about the RA2, but I know there have been several members that tried putting 16 RA4s in pre-16 trucks and it didn't work, at least not 100%. Some of them worked for a while and then started requiring a negative battery terminal disconnect every week or so to reset the radio. At the same time, some members have had no issues and some haven't even been able to get the radios to boot in their trucks. But like I said that was with RA4s not RA2s.

I haven't seen too many people that are opting for the RA2 upgrade. Seems like most go straight for the RA4.

If you don't want to take the chance of putting a 16 radio in your 14. I've got a 14 RA2 that I just replaced with a RA4. I'm more than willing to sell it to you if you're interested.

Plug n play .

The compass hard button will not work unless you get the CV2 code flashed and install a compass module but that should be the case with any RA2 in your RA1 Original truck .

If you want the hands free Bluetooth to work 100% you will also need
1) Mirror with microphones
2) Mirror header harness
3 VR / Phone button on the evic controls on the L/S of the wheel .

But the radio will work plug n play and also gives you a nice platform to install the OEM backup cam mod , which is a pretty easy and very nice install !

Hope this helps !

Meant for Rollinco, sounds like he had a line on a 16 radio. Unable to PM as I am new .

Even though I have a 16 in my 13 and love it, I'd recommend against it. Lately there have been several people who bought 16 radios and tried them in 14 trucks and couldn't even get them to turn on. I don't think anyone outside of the manufacturer, FCA, and maybe some of the repair shops know why that is. Unless you get it cheap and/or have the ability to return it easily, I don't think it's worth the risk.

This thread is talking about RA2's. Does the compatibility issue hold true with those or is it just the 16 RA3/4 that has the backward compatibility issues?

My bad. I saw RA4 mentioned in one of the posts and got confused. I haven't heard of any issues with the RA2, but it's not a really popular upgrade either so there's not a lot of talk.

I don't believe there is any improvement from 14 to 16 on the RA2, though. A 14 model shouldn't be hard to find, so I'd probably stick to the same year just to be safe.

What year truck do you have? I have a 14 RA2 that's sitting in my garage since I upgraded to the RA4. The Uconnect site doesn't show any difference in the 14 vs 16 RA2's, so if you really want a RA2 I'd be happy to sell you mine. But like 00R/T and I both stated in previous posts, most people go straight for the RA4. After Rollinco did some additional research, this is what he told me he was going to do, as well.

I'd suggest you research the RA4 upgrade before deciding to do the RA2 upgrade. After that, if you decide you still want the RA2, as I said before, I'd gladly sell you mine.

Fwiw , I did my RA4 upgrade on a budget like so :

1rst I installed an RA2 5.0 $150 touchscreen radio ( plug n play )

2nd I installed a near new steering wheel that already had the audio controls & VR / Phone button for $150

3rd I installed a nearly new mirror with microphones I stole for $50
And then I bought the header harness for the mirror from my local dealer $28

I was happy with that for about a year , but during that year I was barging shopping for the remainder of my RA4 Upgrade items , since I had plenty of time I found great deals on the rest of the items I required for the RA4 upgrade as follows :

1) a 2013 Canadian RA4 with US maps for Navigation for $275 , this is a great radio for the price .

2) a used getupkid 7 to 7 short conversion harness from a member here for free

3) HVAC module off ebay $60

4) 911 delete plug ( didn't need it with the CA radio but I got one for the future for only $10 so why not

This is the approach I chose so I didn't have to let go of all the funds at once for the full RA4 upgrade , I kinda did 1/2 with the RA2 then the rest latter with the RA4

Were you able to resale the RA2?

I did , I actually sold it for more than I paid for it which help offset some of the $$ I was spending on the RA4 stuff

Newbie here , can't place an ad yet. Truck is a 2017 3500 Tradesman. I'm hard of hearing and prefer to use a headset like required in the Semi. Just looking to move the rear camera image from the morror to the radio so the RA2 would be fine.
