Bought my Blue 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 V8, 8 spd, 4x4, 3.92 gear, Crew Cab short bed (5'8") everything from the frame up made of cheap plastic, Express truck in April 2015 in Fl at Daytona Dodge. Moved to Wa in 2016. Truck cost around $40k with a monthly like a second mortgage and never expected to have a problem with a brand new vehicle. I even bought the extended warranty. (I previously owned a 99 Dodge Dakota that rusted itself apart so much that I poured thousands of $$$$ into each year, so I was ready for a new vehicle that wouldn't see the inside of a service Dept except for oil changes for many years to come.) Then on 19Jan2017, I start the vehicle and it says service shifter. None of the lights on the shifter dial light up, so I'm stuck in a vehicle that starts but can't be driven. I Get a tow to the nearest dealership where they say it will take 2 weeks just to get to it since they are backed up. Thankfully they got to it the next day but found out that the TIPM fuse box and attached wiring harness had a white substance all over it and that it had corroded some of the wires to the point where they were frayed. At this point I was assigned a case manager from Chrysler who told me that this problem was not covered under warranty and that I should have washed my truck more. I don't even live in a place where they use salt since it doesn't freeze and I've only driven through MN once in the winter and of course I washed my truck regularly! The price to repair is $1200, NOT covered under warranty or insurance. I can't believe a less than 2-year-old vehicle with regular maintenance completed and less than 25,000 miles is already costing me more than 1k in repairs!!!
The TPIM covers most electrical problems in Rams and mine wasn't even listed under the average "lights going haywire" complaint. The picture clearly shows what a poor design and location the TIPM is in, with wire connections open to the elements. If anybody has had this repair/problem or had it covered under warranty, let me know how it went!
Not to self; Beating on steering wheel in anger will caus airbag deployment
