I'm going to relist some useful links for you from the OEM backup camera thread. If you locate the i550 Tailgate connector back at the end of the truck (and it's intact), and you get the parts that are supposed to be inside the tailgate, you should be able to plug in the needed harnesses to the OEM camera provided you can figure out a way to mount it. Downside is that you may also want to seal up the harness connectors/wires that are normally inside the tailgate against water intrusion (ie w/silicone).

Have a read through the oem mirror kit directions to see how it was installed previously. Not sure if you had dealer installed backup cam/mirror kit or a factory installed backup cam/mirror (different connections where the harness passes through the firewall near the brake pedal).

---------------------------
NOTE: The Schematic for the factory Mirror camera is slightly different, but that shouldn't affect the tailgate end. I will see if I can find/post a link for you and some pictures to this post shortly...

Edit: See post 25 link above for pictures of the i550 tailgate connector. Chances are that the adapter/connector the dealer was talking about (in glovebox) is just a "Sealing plug" for the i550 for when people remove the tailgate.

EDIT 2:
It's possible to get some male terminals and pin an aftermarket camera to plug in at the i550 camera for video and power with that "plug". If the aftermarket camera requires a separate, dedicated "reverse trigger" signal, that wire can be run over to the trailer connector (do not use the one in the tail lights).
Delphi Male Connector Housing Assy: 54241000
Delphi Male 1.5mm Terminals (16-18awg): 54001626 (new pn: 13630404)
Delphi Male 1.5mm Terminals (20-22awg): 54002001 (new pn: 13624759)
Delphi 1.5mm Sealing plugs: 54241629 (new pn: 13755243)

PM me your email and I can send you a schematic for the 2017 "Factory" Backup Camera (too large to link directly)
Fantastic information Mike !

Well, not sure if I mentioned it before,

but I did get the 'harness I needed' (yea right) from the dealer the other day,

they sent me the harness that attaches to the backup camera!

the first time they sent me the backup camera and the harness that attaches to the backup camera!

still sure I'm missing something.

I went out and looked underneath the truck again today, maybe thinking I can find the small harness that attaches to the camera hanging in the wire loom.

I thought maybe that small white connector that attaches to the backup camera would be hanging in the wire loom somewhere, but no, not that lucky.

I think the dealer will get this truck back, or pay for the backup camera install someway or the other,

the sad thing is the people who put it together are just as clueless as me, :superhack::flipthebird:

The small harness that attatched to the backup cam goes inside the tailgate and attaches to a different harness also inside the tailgate and that harness attatched to the long body harness that goes up front under the hood .

Just make them install the backup camera or give you a vehicle with one . On 2nd thoughts , don't let them install it as they would probably mess up your truck , have them pay a different shop to do the install .

Good luck Sir

yea for some reason they are being real buttholes about it.

I forgot to mention, probably the 15th time I called, the lady who handled the sales, said "oh this is the second time this has happened".

she told me they had screwed someone eleses truck/back up camera setup also. and she said "they still haven't picked up the harness yet".

I cant believe she admitted that, or why they wouldnt fix it, guess they are dumb. they screw it up , and then they dont care.

If I could remember right now I'd post the dealers name, because IMO they are not very helpful at fixing their screw ups. hateful even, just to try and not fix it.

they blamed the 'guy across the street' and If I could remember his name and shop I'd post it to, because he sucks also.

I'd post it just to let others be aware of "dealerships" and "Aftermarket accessories" people who suck.

they did offer me a chance to go "buy what I need" and they would "pay for it",

I am either going to "have them pay for it" or take it back to them and let them fix it, which is most unlikely, because they didnt fix it right to begin with,

thanks for the advice.

I think I've done aggravated them enough, that I think they will finally be happy to have it done right. haha. but it wasnt my fault to begin with...... I just made the mistake of buying it from them. l.o.l

I think the dealer will be surprised at how much is missing.......because I am, when someone else ends up having to install it right.

called back again today,

they are going to send it back to the 'guy across the street'

I called the 'guy across the street' and he said call back monday, that his boss wasnt there, and they would have to schedule a time Monday of next week to get the truck in and do the work they were suppose to.

'the guy across the street' who was suppose to install the camera, who also is suppose to have been responsible for installing the bed of the truck, said the truck was brought to him without a pickup bed, and thats why he didnt install the camera, totally clueless.

but anyways, they can deal with that. to much miscommunication, and I now know I will have it done, because they are dumb.

I felt dumb just for a few days, staring and a wiring harness with no way to connect a camera,

now they get a turn. haha.

Might want to provide them with the information I emailed you so they don't do some aftermarket camera hack together job vs getting the factory system working if that rear i550 connector is still there. If not, (or they cut it off), then you have a different issue to work around.

Alright here's how the story goes now,

Called again, the guy across the street, and the woman on the phone, there stories are not the same.

the guy across the street charges $500 to remove the bed, and install the new one, that charge goes to the dealer/the woman on the phone.

the woman on the phone says the guy across the street lost the camera etc,

but the guy across the street says the truck never came with a bed, so he had no clue about the camera.

called again, and the woman on the phone admitted that they took the bed off, because the guy across the street charges $500 to do that.

talked to the woman on phone, again, haha, because she had said "go get whatever you need and get it done" blah blah. no.

told her to set up a appointment with someone to get this fixed, so I ended up having to call the guy across the street,

the guy across the street, he boss isnt' there, so I have to call back this monday and set up a appointment with him, and have it fixed, gotta drive it down there though, the dealer is gonna pay for it though.

told them I want it done right, and also asked why the frig the hole thats drilled in the bed to get access to the spare tire doesnt line up?!

I found that out when I removed the FULL SIZE spare, with a 14mm ratchet and socket, the hole doesnt line up at all.

so the guy across the street is gonna fix that crap too. I left the spare tire in the bed for him though, gonna ask if he'll put that on while its down there.

other than that, the truck gets 11MPG.....

I dont think they'll admit where they lost it at.

lol.

I'll find out this week.... perhaps. ....

it wouldnt surprise me if they all of a sudden found it, and installed it on my truck,

who knows, it might take a couple of days to locate the parts.

well quick update,

called the shop again, and the guy on the other end of the phone still says his boss is still out of town, to call back next week, to set something up.

looks like for now they are giving me the run-around.

maybe just a Coincidence, being as my trucks messed up, their fault, and just when I'm happening to take it back for them to fix it, the boss is out of town.....

I'll find out next week....... maybe he'll be back by then.

Of course. Interesting round of hot potato you are getting. Finger point and stall until you are tired of dealing with it.

Considering this was something that the dealership was supposed to have handled for you with your purchase, I wonder if the forum's @RamCares rep can be of any assistance.
